Job Description

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under an assigned supervisor, Instructors participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs, courses and other experiences that will directly result in the educational growth of the students and support advancement of the vision, mission and values of the college and District. This position may include a combination of day, evening, and/or weekend assignments in classroom, labs, simulation, and clinicals based on Department needs.

This position, is being offered by a college strongly committed to the "open door" concept serving a diverse student population. Instructors will be, expected to perform other duties consistent with their faculty job description as stated in the faculty contract F.AFT - INSTRUCTOR FULL TIME.pdf (gcccd.edu)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: APPLICANTS MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA AS SET BY THE CALIFORNIA BOARD OF REGISTERED NURSING:

Master's in nursing from an accredited college or university AND Current license or eligibility for licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California AND

The equivalent of one year of continuous experience as a Registered Nurse providing direct patient care in the last five years in a medical-surgical setting (clinical teaching applies) OR

Eligible for approval as an instructor by the California State Board of Nursing OR

Equivalent experience and/or education as determined by the Board of Registered Nursing.

Applicants must demonstrate a sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS: Applicant must demonstrate:

Expertise in nursing in an acute clinical setting.

Ability to work and communicate effectively and professionally with colleagues and students.

Ability to instruct and motivate students from a broad spectrum of academic, ethnic, socioeconomic, cultural and language backgrounds.

Ability to actively engage students to think critically while participating in the learning process.

Evidence of a strong commitment to remain current in nursing and its instructional program.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will also be evaluated for qualifications in the following:

Ability to implement curriculum appropriate to the demands of a diverse student population.

Preferred: mental health nursing experience or willingness to remediate to mental health instruction.

Perform other duties consistent with faculty job description as stated in the faculty contract.

Desirable: experience teaching in class, clinical, and simulation.
