Job Details

Wells College seeks qualified applicants for the senior level position of Director of Marketing and Communications.  The Director of Marketing & Communications is expected to advance the College and its mission by developing and implementing strategies to effectively communicate Wells’ mission, goals, strengths, and accomplishments to all primary internal and external constituencies – including students, faculty, staff, alumnae and alumni, parents, donors, the news media, and the general public. As such, the Director is responsible for the College’s institutional messaging; branding and visual identity; print, email, and web publications; social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, and Twitter; crisis communications; advertising and marketing, both nationally and regionally; and major fundraising campaigns and initiatives.

The Director also serves as the College’s primary institutional writer and is expected to produce written material in support of the Office of the President and the Board of Trustees. Working under the direction of the College’s president, the director serves as a member of the president’s cabinet (senior leadership team) playing a key role in ensuring the College’s Strategic Plan and its objectives are realized.

 Specific duties include but are not limited to:

  • Lead institutional brand awareness and marketing and advertising efforts.
  • Lead the College’s media relations efforts. Write for the Office of the President.
  • Serve as primary editor and production manager for all major College communications, both print and electronic.
  • Manage promotion of campus events and activities.
  • Manage a team of two full-time members of the Marketing & Communication team, the manager of the College’s bookstore, and several student work-study employees

Required qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and at least 7 to 10 years related experience in higher education communications/marketing, journalism, publishing, and/or nonprofit management. A master’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing or related field is strongly preferred but not required, as is knowledge of development/fundraising best practices.
