Texas Southern University (TSU), a student-centered, comprehensive doctoral university, nestled in the heart of Houston’s historic Third Ward, has been a long-term power for good and social justice in Texas, the nation, and the world. A distinguished educational pioneer since 1927, Texas Southern is one of the most diverse and respected institutions in Texas and is one of only 11 HBCUs in the nation with a Carnegie Classification of R2 - High Research.

TSU seeks a Provost and Senior Vice President who will be a visible leader on campus, fostering a culture of excellence in teaching, research, student success and program innovation. Not least among these opportunities is the university’s strategic press toward Carnegie Research-1 status. The leadership team is under construction to accomplish this aim. To that end, the Provost will be an entrepreneurial, forward-thinking, and proactive leader who possesses a fundamental
commitment to the core University mission of teaching, learning and student success coupled with a deep
appreciation for research and scholarship. The successful candidate will exhibit collaborative and transparent leadership with the ability to work with a diverse group of constituencies and build consensus.  The individual will be a visionary and thoughtful leader with the skills to articulate and implement change, be a problem solver and decision maker who is a skillful communicator and can foster trust and inspire confidence. The candidate of choice will have a deep commitment to and understanding of the institution’s mission, to diversity, equity and inclusion, have an authentic, engaging interpersonal style and have the ability to effectively represent the University to external constituencies.

The University expects to announce the selection of its new academic leader in Fall 2022.
