Job Description

This is a non-tenure track, Assistant Clinical Professor, academic year position based in at either our Flagstaff or Phoenix campus. The position is renewable, based upon effective performance, availability of funds, and program needs, with the possibility of a multiple-year appointment.

The appointment will begin Fall 2022 academic semester. This position also has opportunity for summer course teaching. This position is in the Department of Educational Psychology, Applied Human Behavior program, which is in the College of Education. The Department of Educational Psychology offers a combined Ph.D. in Counseling/School Psychology, PsyD in Clinical Psychology, Ed.S. in School Psychology, Master's degrees in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, School Counseling, Student Affairs, Human Relations, and an Undergraduate Degree in Applied Human Behavior. The Department of Educational Psychology has statewide locations that also offer accredited programs.

The Department of Educational Psychology (EPS) is seeking to fill an Assistant Clinical Professor in Applied Human Behavior at our North Valley Phoenix or Flagstaff Mountain campus beginning in August 2022.

Responsibilities:
  1. Teach undergraduate classes for the Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies (BIS) Applied Human Behavior Program, as well as graduate courses in within the Department of Educational Psychology; possible course assignments include Diverse Work Environments; Addictions, Recovery, and Resilency; Research Methods in Applied Human Behavior; Theoretical Perspectives on Deviant Behavior; Community Planning and Sustainable Practice; Inequality, Social Justice, and Global Citizenship in the 21st Century
  2. Work collaboratively with community social service agencies and schools to coordinate and supervise practicum and internship experiences for Applied Human Behavior students
  3. Teach in-person, blended and online courses
  4. Assist in recruiting, retaining, and advising Applied Human Behavior students, including developing and maintaining relationships with NAU graduate programs.
  5. Fulfill service responsibilities to the department, college, and the profession


Minimum Qualifications

  1. Earned doctorate in Human Behavior, Psychology, Development or related field; ABD applicants who will complete their dissertations in academic year 2022-23 will be considered at the instructor rank until completion of degree
  2. College teaching experience (can include college teaching as a graduate assistant)


Preferred Qualifications

  1. Clinical experience within community settings or human service organizations
  2. Licensed or eligible for licensure through Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners (e.g., Social Work or Counseling) or through the Board of Psychologist Examiners (Psychologist)
  3. Experience in networking/collaborating with interdisciplany human service organizations
  4. Demonstrated success or potential teaching in the area of human behavior, social work, psychology, and/or professional counseling
  5. Ability/experience or strong interest in recruiting, advising, and mentoring undergraduate students
  6. Demonstrated efficacy in teaching cultural humility, intersectionality, diversity, and working with people from a variety of diverse backgrounds (e.g., culture, gender/sexuality, language, disability, class, and age); and understanding of the diversity of rural and southwest communities
  7. Ability/experience or strong interest in supervising undergraduate students with service learning and internship projects affiliated with courses and the profession
  8. Active involvement or leadership roles in relevant professional associations such as the National Association of School Psychologists and/or the American Psychological Association, American Counseling Association, or the National Association of Social Work
  9. Familiarity or experience using learning management systems (LMS) for online teaching such as Blackboard or Canvas

Background Information

This position has been identified as a safety/security sensitive position. Therefore, per AZ Revised Statute, Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, employment history investigation, degree verification (in some cases) and fingerprinting. If you are applying for a job that requires a CDL, you will be required to register with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse and adhere to the clearinghouse requirements. Additionally, as an employer in the state of Arizona, NAU is required to participate in the federal E-Verify program that assists employers with verifying new employees' right to work in the United States. Finally, each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities. Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.

This is a Faculty (FAC) position. NAU offers an excellent benefit package including generous health, dental and vision insurance; participation in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) or the Optional Retirement Program (ORP); sick leave accruals and 10 holidays per year; and tuition reduction for employees and qualified family members. More information on benefits at NAU is available at the NAU HR benefits page. Faculty are hired on a contract basis, renewable according to terms of the Conditions of Faculty Service. Employees offered a position will be eligible for state health plans (including NAU's BCBS Plan). Employees will have 31 days from date of hire to enroll in benefits, and their benefits will then be effective the first day of the pay period following their completed enrollment. If a new employee chooses the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) retirement option, participation in the ASRS Plan (and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it) will begin on the first of the pay period following 183 days of employment. New employees who choose to participate in the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP; an alternative to the ASRS plan) will begin to participate on the first day of employment. The long-term disability plan that accompanies the ORP will begin on the first day of the pay period following 90 days of employment.
