Job Summary/Basic Function:

The department of Educational Foundations at Millersville University invites applications for a Temporary, part-time instructor responsible for teaching EDLD 614 School and Community Relations to students in the Leadership for Teaching and Learning MEd and principal certification programs in the Department of Educational Foundations.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, or related discipline.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of how to involve the community and families in the schooling process from an equity lens.
  • Ability to conduct classes through multifaceted teaching strategies for face-to-face classroom delivery and/or web enhanced or web-based formats
  • Evidence of ability to successfully teach diverse student populations.
  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal communication skills.
  • Evidence of a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Successful interview.
  • Successful completion of three background checks.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree (ABD with doctorate required by the date of appointment) in Educational Leadership or related discipline.

Job Description:

TEACHING AND PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teach School and Community Relations to principal certification students. Additional responsibilities include ongoing professional/scholarly activity and service to the department and university commensurate with the assignment.

  • Teach a three-credit course in school and community relations.
  • Recruit educational leadership students.
  • Serve on portfolio defense committees as appropriate.
Part-time faculty members shall maintain a prorated number of office hours each week, at a minimum of twenty-five (25) minutes for each workload hour taught, at such days, times and locations as will accommodate the needs of the students.

This position requires in-person instruction on Millersville University’s campus. This position is contingent upon sufficient enrollments in assigned classes.

Adjuncts are encouraged to be engaged in an ongoing process of scholarly development to ensure the currency of their instruction. They are encouraged to make results of scholarly activity available for the public and critical peer review. This could be evidenced by presenting papers at scholarly or public conferences; publishing books or articles in academic, popular, or educational journals; attending and holding membership or office in local, regional, national, or international scholarly associations; seeking and obtaining grants or fellowships; serving on juries, panels, or review boards of grant-giving institutions; consulting as a scholarly advisor for public or educational programs or organizations, including schools.OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Other reasonable duties assigned within the faculty member’s field of competence.
PERFORMANCE REVIEW / EVALUATIONS:
Ongoing evaluation, including annual peer review; classroom observations by one department faculty member per semester, and one classroom observation per year by department chair; and student evaluations. The results of these observations and evaluations are kept on file to serve as part of the record for renewal or reappointment.

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:
The Educational Foundations (EDFN) Department is comprised of 15 full time faculty members and 1 support staff. EDFN is the education home to secondary BSE majors. We believe strongly that teachers must both know the subjects they teach and how to teach them to students. Because of this belief, we value our partnership with liberal arts departments in providing education courses, field experience, and co-advisors for our undergraduate secondary education students. This partnership also includes content specific preparation in Social Studies, English, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, World Languages, Math and Technology Education. EDFN also houses two MEd programs in Leadership for Teaching and Learning (LDTL) and Assessment, Curriculum, and Teaching (ACTE). Finally, in 2015, EDFN created the first doctoral program at Millersville, in partnership with Shippensburg University. The EdD program in Educational Leadership continues to matriculate a new cohort of students each year.

Essential Functions:

  • Must be able to lift/pull/push up to 10 pounds without assistance.
    • lift student paper bundles, small boxes, scene shop equipment and materials.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift/pull/push heavier items with assistance.
  • Teach courses face-to-face and online if necessary at the higher education level using lectures, demonstrations, class discussion, using online tools and/or equipment and/or other appropriate tools appropriate modes of education delivery.
  • Able to record and calculate grades, prepare course outline and syllabus, develop course and lesson plans, engage in the selection of appropriate textbooks and other teaching aids necessary to the delivery of instruction.
  • Use computer for email, obtain information on websites, prepare class documents, grade papers, submit final grades online and other duties related to teaching and advising students and serving the department, college, university and community.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risks.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and mouse.
