Under the general supervision of the Executive Director of Student Government Student Media (SGSM), the Assistant Director, Events & Marketing, is responsible for the oversight, developing, coordinating, executing, and advising all SGSM student life programs and events with the student leadership of the Associated Students of the University of California, Irvine (ASUCI) and the Associated Graduate Students (AGS). This position is also responsible for coordinating all marketing and advertising plans for these events and programs. The incumbent also will work closely with Executive Director and the student leadership team to develop programs for SGSM students; advise, oversee, develop, coordinate, execute new programs, events, and services; and review and revise internal protocols and policies to ensure they are in-line with university protocol or higher. The position will also advise on budget development specific to events and programs, ensuring events are within budget, negotiate pricing and oversee logistical matters with vendors, and ensure purchasing processes are within policy. This position will require a high degree of customer service to UCI faculty, staff, students, departments, and campus community. Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced professional, to provide comprehensive coordination and management oversight of moderately complex and / or medium-size events. Compensation Range: $59,200 - $86,700 Department Website: https://www.studentgov.uci.edu/ Required: 2-5 years of directly related professional experience.Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.Demonstrates good judgment in making decisions and managing events. Skill in effectively meeting budget and time constraints. Ability to give clear directives and use independent, rational judgment to make optimal decisions. Demonstrated organizational and project management skills to work successfully with clients to produce high quality events that meet client needs and appropriately represent the campus for fundraising events. Skills to provide excellent donor stewardship. Knowledge and skill to set and monitor work standards and protocols. Proven ability to work on several tasks simultaneously. Skill at responding effectively to priorities and setting deadlines. Experience maintaining a high standard of productivity within a broad scope of responsibility despite frequent interruptions. Ability to complete large volume of diverse tasks efficiently, meeting established deadlines. Highly developed interpersonal communication skills including political acumen and social perceptiveness. Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with diverse populations with competing priorities. Ability to effectively work with invited guests, donors, government officials and university VIPs. Highly developed judgment, decision-making and problem recognition / avoidance / resolution skills, including skill in determining those issues / problems that need to be brought to management's attention. Thorough knowledge of the campus, its vision, mission, programs, policies, achievements and infrastructure. Knowledge of University policies and procedures relating to the use of University facilities, event management and presentation. Knowledge of principles and practices of volunteer recruitment, supervision, motivation and evaluation. Thorough knowledge and understanding of concepts, principles and practices of event planning and public relations, including event design, organization and production. Knowledge of crowd management, crowd safety protocols, security and emergency procedures related to small, medium and large-scale gatherings. Preferred: Knowledge of general UCI policy and procedures. Technical and operational knowledge of all facets of stage production, including lighting, rigging, sound, stage, backline, etc. Special Conditions Required: This position will be required to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends.
