Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Library Director, the Head of Collections creatively and proactively leads a team of four staff members, including the Electronic Resources and Serials Manager, in maintaining and evaluating efficient workflows, developing the library's collections, and creating a rich, diverse, and relevant array of offerings based on the needs of the Rollins community. This team is responsible for the acquisition, access, licensing, organization, and description of library collections in all formats, as well as interlibrary loan. In addition to leading and managing a department, the Head of Collections serves as a member of the Director's leadership team.

Primary Job Responsibilities:
• Leads and manages a team of four staff members.
• Manages the library's collections in all formats, in collaboration with library colleagues and in support of the Rollins College curriculum.
• Uses an evidence-based approach to perform and direct selection, promotion, and de-acquisition of library materials and online services and recommends introducing new formats and eliminating outdated collections, and develops procedures on weeding, acquisition, and all aspects of the selection process.
• In consultation with the Director, develops the annual budget for review, and administers the approved budget allocations for collection resources. Develops and recommends system policy and procedure on collection development related matters.
• Leads strategy and team accountability for acquisition, licensing, organization, access, and description of library collections in all formats, as well as interlibrary loan.
• Anticipates collection needs by analyzing demographic trends, past collection performance, and emerging developments. Considers and makes recommendations on new formats (including nontraditional collections) and the de-acquisition of less popular collections (including under-utilized electronic collections).
• Ensures technical operations are streamlined and standards compliant and works to ensure that selection and de-accession activities generate a continuous, stable workflow. Collaborates with other unit leaders on optimizing workflow across units.
• Leads the Electronic Resources and Serials Manager in contract negotiation, licensing, troubleshooting, and performance evaluation of vendors. Provides information and support to the library director in the negotiation of e-resource licensing. Regularly reviews standing orders and periodical subscriptions.
• Collaborates with the Digital Archivist in leading digital scholarship initiatives and coordination of related collections and systems.
• Serves as a member of the Director's team of department heads in coordinated leadership of Library initiatives.

Research Assistance and Instruction
• Provides research consultation assistance during scheduled hours at the Olin Library.
•Provides information literacy instruction including library orientations and general and subject-specific instruction sessions.
• Works with faculty members to develop a professional and contextually appropriate collection in all formats across disciplines.
• May participate in library liaison outreach program to assigned academic departments and holds a courtesy faculty appointment to the Olin Library.
• Takes initiative to identify and facilitate ongoing communication and build relationships with stakeholders (e.g. academic departments, administrative departments, programs, and organizations) within the Rollins community on matters related to Library collections.

Minimum Qualifications & Education
• MLS from an ALA-accredited library school or an equivalent degree.
• Two or more years of experience supervising staff and/or librarians.
• Experience indicating the ability to lead, manage, and administer library collections in all formats.
•Ability and/or demonstrated experience to lead and manage a department, including personnel management and evaluation and knowledge of library and institutional policies and procedures.
• Ability to effectively plan and delegate projects from vision to evaluation.
• Ability to manage and lead change in a rapidly developing library environment.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to interact with college constituents and the public effectively and courteously.
• Ability to work as a leader in a team environment.
• Significant knowledge of one or more of the library subspecialties of acquisitions, collection management, cataloging, metadata, scholarly communication, digital collections, or interlibrary loan.
•An appreciation for the liberal arts and the role of the library in higher education.
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience with web-based resources, including open access resources.
• Campus-based position located within the Olin Library.

Preferred Qualifications:	
• A second master's degree in an academic discipline is preferred.
