Job Description:

The office of Academic Support is seeking a part-time, highly motivated individual to serve as an OPS Academic Success Coach. This position works with the Program Director to provide ongoing academic support services to undergraduate scholars associated with our programs. This position will primarily coach students and conduct academic interventions, but it will also have broader responsibilities, including coordinating support services, programs and events. There is also the opportunity to lead academic enrichment workshops, teach First-Year Experience courses, and assist in grant writing and program assessment.

The role and responsibilities of this position align with the overall program goals to retain and graduate undergraduate participants. The academic success coaching will focus on assisting students with goal-setting and developing individual academic success plans. ASCs work closely with students to identify and overcome academic challenges and other barriers that may interfere with a student’s ability to persist, achieve their personal educational and career goals, be retained or progress towards graduation.

Duties:

• Provides academic coaching and guidance; liaising with campus partners, undergraduate advisors, faculty and staff to build a supportive network and connects participants to academic, career and personal development resources.

• Serve as a team member assisting staff in the day-to-day operation of OAS programs

• Documents and reports on contact meetings and academic progress; manage data; and assists with assessing programs and services.

• Build a rapport with students, creating a safe, positive and inclusive environment to facilitate the planning, coordinating and delivery of support services

• Coordinates services and liaises with UF Student Success, departments, units and campus collaborators to provide integrated and intensive academic support to participants with faculty advisors, faculty, staff, departments/units and campus collaborators

• Guide and refer students to appropriate services to facilitate comprehensive student support

• Assist students in establishing goals and tracking progress towards those goals

• Documents enrollment and academic performance information

• Assist with coordinating and implementing undergraduate programs

• Provides academic coaching and interventions for participants

• Assists with study skills workshops, symposiums and seminars

• Coordinate academic interventions, workshops and advising sessions as needed

• Maintain consistent communication and regular follow-up with students

• Assist in promoting OAS programs and services

• Participate in required training and development activities

Expected Salary:

$18.00 - $20.00 per hour; commensurate with education and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree or higher

Preferred Qualifications:

● Mentoring or coaching experience in higher education

● Experience working with a diverse student population, including first-generation, limited-income, or underrepresented students or students with disabilities

● Ability to utilize concepts/theories on student development in the practice of providing student support services, coaching, advising and student retention.

● Good organizational and time management skills

● Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills

● Strong computer skills, including the ability to learn and utilize student database software

● High level of commitment to student success programs and initiatives

•Graduate student or a degree in higher education administration or counseling

•At least one year of experience working in academic or student affairs

•Moderately familiar with student development theory
