Job Summary Provide advanced unit level research IT design, integration, implementation, modification, and support services, typically in an academic or research unit. Hold the role of a senior level subject matter expert regarding delivery of IT services in support of research and instruction. Position focuses on maximizing the delivery of high- value consultative services to faculty and their research groups. This position will interact on a consistent basis with: Faculty, staff, students, postdocs, and unit management. This position typically will advise and counsel: Faculty, staff, Postdocs, and unit management. This position will supervise: Students or lower level IT personnel

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -

Consult with academic and research faculty and administrative leadership; analyze complex needs and requirements for large research groups or instructional labs.

Job Duty 2 -
Design, develop, test, implement and evaluate functional and technical IT system requirements and specifications; provide expert technical advice to research groups.

Job Duty 3 -
Advanced system administration of systems for multiple research groups, including monitoring and ensuring performance and reliability objectives.

Job Duty 4 -
Responsible for the data management and security operation for multiple research groups. Formulate and implement recovery plans including backup; communicates security and data management practices to end users.

Job Duty 5 -
Responsible for the operational support of a large and diverse set of set of cyber-infrastructure resources (including desktops, workstations, data acquisition systems, and other computational and data resources).

Job Duty 6 -
Perform updates to server and desktop software/applications; recommend and implement replacement, consolidation and/or upgrade of computational and data resources.

Job Duty 7 -
Develop complex scripts or programs to automate monitoring and deployment activities; review source code when appropriate.

Job Duty 8 -
Recommend hardware and software procurements; manage assets for a School or a large number of research groups.

Job Duty 9 -
Develop and recommend standard operating procedures.

Job Duty 10 -
Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications Educational Requirements
Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Other Required Qualifications
Ability to work outside of typical business hours as needed, potentially including but not limited to evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Required Experience
Four to six years of job related experience

Preferred skills include working knowledge of one or more programming language and operational software development methodology

Preferred Educational Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field

Preferred Qualifications Preferred Education: Bachelor's degree in computer or engineering related field or equivalent experience.

Preferred Work Experience: 4 years of experience managing large Windows server and workstation environments, implementing and/or using endpoint protection tools such as SCCM, Qualys, WUB, etc., to patch and maintain systems. Linux (RHEL and Ubuntu) and MacOS work experience are a plus.

Preferred Certifications: MCSA or equivalent related to Windows server and workstation administration.

Preferred Skills:

    This job requires advanced knowledge in the installation, configuration and maintenance of Windows servers and workstations, and the services provided by those. Experience using automated provisioning and configuration management tools to manage large workstation environments such as MDT, SCCM and similar patch management tools to keep computers updated.Experience with the integration and management of Windows machines in Active directory environments.Familiarity with NIST 800-71 standards and implementing security standards to work with Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI).Excellent communication skills and ability to work individually and in groups.Familiarity with Linux and MacOS desktop management technologies such as Saltstack, JAMF Pro or similar tools is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities This job requires advanced knowledge and skill in the installation and maintenance of information technology hardware and software at all layers; a full understanding of industry practices and campus policies and procedures; advanced skills in problem solving, decision making, customer service, system documentation and communications; familiarity with enterprise systems, networking, security and overall IT architecture including systems management; strong understanding of how to properly secure research workload along with NIST 800-171 I DFARS 7012 compliance issues.

Other Information We are looking for someone who is passionate about innovation in the education industry. This position will play a key role in supporting the research and instruction mission of the School of Aerospace Engineering. The initial focus of this position will be on:

* Managing and monitoring the SCCM environment to ensure machines are compliant with SCCM policies and get patched in a timely manner.

* Assisting faculty and students with research needs on windows workstations with a focus on solving problems on data collection and experimental research computers.

* Support end users focusing on Windows, but also assisting with Linux and macOS needs.
