Title: Assistant Director of Nursing Workforce Diversity

Reports To: Dean of Nursing

Status: Full Time, Exempt


The purpose of the Nursing Workforce Diversity (NWD) program is to increase nursing education opportunities for individuals who are from disadvantaged backgrounds. The NWD program aims to expand and support a nursing workforce that includes individuals who are from disadvantaged backgrounds, and that is equipped with the tools to provide quality, culturally-aligned care. The objective of the NWD program is to increase the diversity of the nursing workforce by supporting students from disadvantaged backgrounds in becoming registered nurses to decrease health disparities and increase health equity.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Oversee day-today management of the program.
  2. Review and verify eligibility of all opportunity program participants annually.
  3. Assist NWD staff select eligible program participants.
  4. Supervise maintenance and management of all student records. 
  5. Conduct information/orientation sessions for prospective/new participants. 
  6. Oversee and implement educational activities associated with NWD as needed.
  7. Work with College offices to create press releases, brochures, and/or other outreach materials. 
  8. Provide academic counseling to NWD students as needed.
  9. Plan community outreach and recruitment events with local high schools and student service organizations. 
  10. Maintain communication and coordination with NWD and similar programs as appropriate
  11. Assist in preparation of institutional and federal reports. 
  12. Perform other related duties as recommended by NWD Director.
  13. Actively support the mission of Mount Saint Mary College, which provides a liberal arts education in the Catholic and Dominican intellectual tradition. 

Requirements

  1. A Bachelor’s degree (Masters’ preferred) from an accredited institution.
  2. Work experience in an opportunity program of a social services organization that serves a similar student population.
  3. Experience with grant program management
  4. A general understanding of student retention theory and the needs of students from historically disadvantaged backgrounds.
  5. Proficiency in MS Office suite, email, and internet software.
  6. Willingness to work some evenings and weekends.

The Mount is in Newburgh in Orange County, New York, on a beautiful campus that overlooks the western banks of the Hudson River. It's less than a mile from the intersection of the New York State Thruway and Interstate 84, and just a few blocks from entrance to the Newburgh side of the Beacon-Newburgh Bridge. The Mount is also easily accessible by plane, with Stewart Airport just minutes from campus. The Mid-Hudson Valley offers a scope of unparalleled natural beauty in a landscape of mountains, river and forest. Hiking, biking, walking, swimming, mountain climbing, skiing, snowboarding, and our park activities offer so many ways to explore the natural environment.

Enrollment/Student Body Profile. Our student body is made up of 2,700+ students representing over 16 states and several countries. 1,800 are traditional undergraduate students.

Academic Programs. The Mount offers 50 undergraduate programs leading to a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree. Our collaboration programs offer you a chance to earn a bachelor's degree, plus an advanced degree with schools like Fordham University, Pace University, and New York Medical College. The college also offers master's degrees in education, business, and nursing.

Faculty. Students learn from our faculty, the majority of whom hold a Ph.D. or the highest terminal degree in their field. Our Student/Faculty Ratio is 17 students:1 faculty member.
