IT AV Technical Support Specialist

The IT Department at Thiel College seeks candidates for a full-time IT/AV Technical Support Specialist.

The successful candidate will support the College computer operations by maintaining and supporting desktop/laptop computers, peripheral hardware, network resources and other technologies for the educational and administrative needs. Assist the Assistant Director of Information Technology Operations with event support as needed. Work with the co-managed service provider to understand and support the network infrastructure as needed. A focus should be on customer service, building relationships, and working collaboratively with stakeholders. Essential Job Functions:

  • Maintain the operation of various computer systems for the academic, administrative, and student users
  • Provide end-user support to remedy computer, audio/visual, basic network, printing, and other technology related issues in a timely and professional manner
  • Install, update and patch software as needed
  • Configure and repair hardware as necessary
  • Provide instruction to individuals and small groups on how to use computers and various software packages
  • Classroom AV maintenance
  • Support Help Desk coverage during times of high volume
  • Maintain documentation on appropriate configuration practices and procedures
  • Assist in training of Solution Center student workers as needed
  • Maintain documentation on billable and warranty parts and repairs
  • Evaluate, select, image, and distribute the new laptops for incoming students

Education and Experience: Minimum qualifications include an Associate’s degree in related field or a combination of education and experience working in an Information Technology environment; excellent customer service, problem solving, and communication skills. Additional qualifications will ideally include knowledge of Windows and Mac operating systems, Windows deployment services, Active Directory, and a working knowledge of help desk systems, A+ certification, Lenovo certification.

  • Efficient office procedures and current technology
  • Commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in IT
  • Understanding of network infrastructure

  • Exercising discretion and independent judgment
  • Using tact, patience, and courtesy

Ability to:

  • Demonstrate a high degree of professionalism, initiative, and independence.
  • Work with confidential and sensitive information.
  • The ability to multi-task is a must as you will be assigned multiple tickets at once with the expectation of documenting your work.
  • Lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Stand, bend, kneel, walk up and down stairs or ladders, and other physical tasks.
  • Visually and manually operate and connect electronic apparatus, use hand tools and other equipment as needed.
  • Ability to think creatively and document standard tasks
  • Be exposed to mechanical or electrical hazards.
  • Follow oral and/or written instructions.
