Summary of Job Duties and Responsibilities:Working collaboratively in implementation of University retention and student success initiatives. Assisting with the implementation of and advising in the first-year academic advising model.
- Assist the Coordinator of First-Year Academic Advising in the implementation of effective first-year academic advising programs across all academic colleges/schools.
- Assist the Coordinator for First-Year Academic Advising with managing, coordinating, and improving programs and services for all first-time full-time first-year students.
- Work with one-two academic colleges/schools to provide advising to first-year students.
- Serve on the First-Year Experience Committee.
- Assist in managing transition programs for first-time full-time first-year students including the recruitment selection, and training of first-year academic advisors.
- Provide individual academic advising for first-year students.
- Provide direct service support to individual first-year students on matters related to transition, academic progress, major selection, and student development.
- Advocate for students from all backgrounds to ensure they receive the benefits of support services offered.
- Collaborate with academic, student affairs and enrollment management departments to promote awareness and importance of retention initiatives.
- Support initiatives coordinated by the Center for Student Engagement and Success.
- Assist with other program initiatives as directed by the Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management.
- Master’s degree in an appropriate field is required (higher education, student personnel, counseling, or other related programs).
- Experience in or an understanding of academic advising or serving in a mentor role for college students.
- Demonstrate ability to quickly and thoroughly gain knowledge of academic programs, general studies requirements, and requirements that must be met for full admission to the university.
- Possess excellent written and oral/interpersonal communication skills and strong organizational skills.
- Experience in dealing with confidential information.
- Knowledge and usage of computer-based software such as Starfish, Degree-works and Banner
- Some work on weekends and evenings required.
