Building Maintenance Coordinator

Position Summary

Under the direction of, and reporting to, the CHM West Facilities Manager, the Operations Coordinator assists the Operations/Facilities team with day-to-day operations and helps coordinate the output of resources, goods and/or services to satisfy customer needs within the Grand Rapids Research Center (GRRC) and the Secchia Center, as well as the Doug Meijer Medical Innovation Building (DMMIB), when needed. Along with meeting and coordinating the equipment needs of the Grand Rapids sites, this will involve creating efficiencies through development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), training protocols, assisting with automating and streamlining processes, and identifying and solidifying best practices for optimal equipment procurement and maintenance. This position will assist to oversee temporary and part-time employees needed for meeting all glassware washing processes for our research labs. Occasional backup support to the Facilities Manager and other key roles at the GRRC, Secchia Center, and DMMIB is also an expectation. Light physical labor may be required which includes responding to and performing minor maintenance needs when necessary.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge normally acquired from specialized training such as that acquired in two to three years of college, such as an Associate's degree; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in performing tasks related to facilities or building operations; knowledge of engineering, HVAC, mechanical and/or electrical systems or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in project or facility management-related field of study, or science/biomedical sciences. Detail oriented, self-directed individual able to juggle a variety of responsibilities and manage these under stress with an emphasis on customer service. The successful candidate will have exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills and will be able to work independently will little direct supervision. This person will have a ‘hands on’, problem-solving approach with flexibility to deal with urgent and last-minute problems. Our ideal candidate will also be able to collaborate with a wide spectrum of internal and external partners to accomplish a job assignment or task. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe, Outlook, Teams, Sharepoint, and PowerPoint as well as Google Docs software. Familiarity or experience with the MSU systems such as EBS, Kuali Financial, Spartan Space and CAM are all preferred.
