Job Summary:

Reporting to the Vice Provost, the Assistant Vice Provost for Institutional Research and Effectiveness will lead campus-wide efforts to collect, evaluate, and analyze data in support of institutional planning and improvement. The AVP will work collaboratively across the university to design, implement, and document best practices in institutional assessment. The AVP will collaborate with deans, departmental heads, program coordinators, faculty, and academic administrators to build, implement, and maintain institutional assessment policies, practices, and systems, with particular emphasis on academic assessment and analysis.

Essential Functions:

  • Oversee Office of Institutional Research and Effectiveness (OIRE) including planning, staffing, budget management, and daily operations.
  • Foster and support a culture of evidence-based decision making for all areas of the university.
  • Direct, coordinate, evaluate, and monitor university planning, assessment, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Develop and implement policies, systems, and procedures that reflect best practices in institutional assessment.
  • Provide guidance to faculty and staff on unit-level assessment plans and processes.
  • Establish best practices in assessment plans that promote student learning, degree attainment, and success after graduation.
  • Ensure all course and program assessments have clearly articulated student-learning outcomes.
  • Participate in the development of staff, academic professionals, administrative personnel, technical personnel, and student employees relevant to institutional assessment.
  • Build effective, collaborative relationships with a diverse population of faculty, staff, and students as well as external governing bodies, accreditation organizations, and similar institutions to continuously enhance the value of assessment.
  • Identify and provide data for institutional planning for budgeting, productivity, program improvement, strategic planning, and other institutional needs.
  • Coordinate the planning, implementation, and monitoring of the university’s strategic plan.
  • Oversee the collection, analysis, reporting, disseminating, and archiving of assessment data/reports/results to support accreditation and academic planning.
  • Plan, organize, coordinate, and monitor instructional and non-instructional programs for effectiveness based on SACSCOC principles.
  • Perform other assessment-related duties as assigned.

    Required Minimum Qualifications:

    • Master’s degree from an accredited institution in a discipline predominately based in quantitative and qualitative research methods.
    • Demonstrated institutional assessment experience in higher education.
    • Demonstrated experience in the assessment of learning outcomes in higher education.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Doctoral degree from an accredited institution in a discipline predominately based in quantitative and qualitative research methods.
    • Five or more years of professional experience in institutional assessment in higher education, especially in the areas of academic assessment and analysis.
    • At least five years of college-level teaching experience.
    • In-depth working knowledge of regional accreditation through Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges of (SACSCOC).
