Job Description

The Academic Support Coordinator is responsible has primary responsibility for coordination of academic support programs within the department of Academic Support and Mentoring, specifically supporting UMKC Tutoring and SI programs, from planning to implementation. In addition, the individual in this role will become/serve as a certified trainer for the International Center for Supplemental Instruction and will deliver and facilitate SI trainings in Kansas City and across the United States

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as an active team member within the department of Academic Support and Mentoring (ASM), contributing positively to mission of ASM and the mission of the International Center for Supplemental Instruction
  • Develop, manage, and/or assist academic support programs, specifically UMKC Tutoring and SI, for improved student success and retention
  • Hire, train, coordinate, and supervise (functional supervision) student academic support leaders and graduate assistant(s)s
  • Collect, compile, and utilize data effectively to initiate programmatic change and improvement
  • Produce reports and write proposals
  • Co-conduct and/or lead local Supplemental Instruction (SI) training workshops, as well as travel to conduct SI trainings at other universities and/or conduct virtual trainings
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of the bi-annual International Conference on Supplemental Instruction
  • Organize and facilitate events
  • Support academic assistance programming
  • Supervise student employees
  • Process and submit budget reports and/or budget requests
  • Travel up to 20%
  • Perform related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

Ability and willingness to work evening and weekend hours including travel both regionally and nationally is required.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree or higher in Education, Psychology, Higher Education, or other related fields.
Working knowledge of student development/learning theory
Understanding of adult learning principles
Experience with tutoring and/or Supplemental Instruction programs
Experience working in higher education
Experience conducting training workshops or making presentations
Experience developing and managing academic support programs

$47,500
