Position Description:
The Assistant Director of Career Services will oversee the successful delivery of a mentorship and career services program for participants of the Break Through Tech AI Program.

This position must implement best practices for facilitating mentorship programs and helping students prepare toward strong career outcomes.

More specifically, the Assistant Director will recruit, train, and manage a team of professional mentors (volunteer data science, machine learning, and AI professionals) who will facilitate small group mentorship workshops. This position will facilitate regional career-oriented programming and inspiring recruitment events that will assist Break Through Tech AI Program participants to master the skills required for interviews, internship, and career. The Assistant Director will help manage relationships with employer recruiting organizations, and must have a passion for helping prepare students to achieve transformational career outcomes.

This position reports to the Director of the Program and works closely with the Break Through Tech AI National Program Office.

The responsibilities may be completed primarily remotely during the initial employment period and would be expected to work on location on our UCLA campus when instruction resumes in person.

Program Information:
Break Through Tech works at the intersection of academia and industry to propel more underrepresented women into higher education and careers in tech -- with a particular emphasis on Black, Latinx, Indigenous, and first- generation college going women and non-binary students.

Hosted by UCLA, Break Through Tech AI is the new program from Break Through Tech on a mission to credential and fast-track undergraduate women into careers in the fastest-growing areas of tech: data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.

Developed with industry leaders, the Break Through Tech AI program includes three high-level components that are considered critical for increasing the competitiveness and marketability of
students pursuing AI/ML engineering roles: (1) skills-based training, (2) industry-relevant portfolios, and (3) mentorship, career coaching, and job placement support. Over the next four years, the Break Through AI program will expand nationwide to foster a diverse next generation of AI leaders who will build AI technologies that are fairer and more representative of our society.
