Reporting to the two program Vice Deans of the Rotman School – the Vice Dean, MBA Programs and the Vice Dean, Undergraduate and Specialized Programs - the Associate Director, Office of Experiential Learning and Practicum Placement, provides strategic management, human resource management, and program leadership for the experiential learning curricular activities for the Master of Management Analytics (MMA), Master of Financial Risk Management (MFRM) and full time MBA programs and all functions related to student internships, practicums and placements.

The Associate Director has managerial authority over the unit and manages all functions related to human resources including organizational design, assignment of work, reorganizations as well as the hiring, performance management, professional development and training of all staff. In consultation with the two program Vice Deans, the Associate Director, develops, implements, manages, and evaluates the Office’s budget, operational plans, as well as related policies and procedures in accordance with University policies and procedures.

The Associate Director is responsible for ensuring that the Office carries out its mandate and designated functions efficiently, effectively and in a manner that is consistent with the policies, objectives, and goals of the Rotman School of Management and the University of Toronto. The Associate Director develops and oversees the processes and systems that ensure effective placement of students with industry hosts and monitors of the quality of the placements. The Associate Director in coordination with the Academic Director for Experiential and Global Learning develops, supports, and supervises experiential learning opportunities for MBA students including independent studies, global consulting projects, and global practicums. The Associate Director is responsible for developing new partnerships and strengthening and maintaining existing relationships with industry hosts for the MFRM Rotman Risk Management project and the MMA Practicum. The Associate Director will do this in consultation with the Vice Dean, Undergraduate and Specialized Programs of the Rotman School, the relevant degree program Academic Directors and the relevant faculty members with teaching responsibility for the degree-program courses associated with placements. One key responsibility of the Associate Director is to develop, monitor and renew partnership agreements that establish long-term commitments for student placements.


  • Master’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.


  • Minimum 5 years administrative experience in a University enviornment is required.
  • A proven track record of developing and executing strategic plans, successfully managing annual goals and objectives
  • Demonstrated ability to make cold calls and develop new relationships in the industry community of relevance to the Rotman School MMA and MFRM programs to grow the base of industry hosts for student practicums, placements and other experiential learning opportunities.
  • A proven track record as a successful leader and team builder, with management experience in a unionized environment.
  • Demonstrated ability in designing and implementing systems, processes and procedures that improve the effectiveness and efficiency of operations.
