Normal Work Schedule: 12 hour shifts (days or nights) to include weekend and holidays

Job Summary: The Security Resources Assistant (SRA), with moderate supervision, provides security services to the University community by monitoring, receiving, processing, and responding to information dealing with physical security access control and safety issues.

Additional Department Summary: This position positively represents the University of Alabama by performing various tasks related to the safety and security of campus to include but not limited to: providing safety assistance to the University community and visitors, performing foot patrol, securing and locking University facilities, responding to alarms, receiving and processing requests for non-emergency assistance, staffing the central monitoring station and maintaining a variety of logs and files. The SRA will work 12 hour shifts (days or nights) to include weekends and holidays.

Required Minimum Qualifications: High School Degree or GED and some work experience.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Prior to a conditional job offer, Security Resources Assistant applicants must successfully complete the following: departmental interview, criminal history check, and detailed background investigation. Must be able to work 12 hours shifts (days or nights) to include weekends and holidays. Must be able to perform foot patrol and work outside in all weather conditions. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs on an occasional basis. Upon conditional job offer, applicants must successfully complete a psychological profile and a training program followed by a 1040 hour probationary period. Final candidates who are not current University of Alabama employees must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen. Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.

Skills and Knowledge: Oral and Written Communication: Good listening, comprehension, and communications skills. Ability to actively listen and communicate effectively and coherently.

Judgment and Decision Making: Ability to utilize independent judgment. Ability to effectively prioritize situations and information and make appropriate decisions quickly based on information received, especially during a stressful situation.

Interpersonal Relationships: Must be able to maintain appropriate and constructive behavior and attitude in response to difficult or adverse situations. Ability to work autonomously as well as to work effectively with other team members. Must be able to maintain good interpersonal and working relationships with staff, co-workers, managers, citizens, and University community members.

Professionalism: Must represent the department to others with a courteous, helpful, accurate, and business-like attitude in all telephone and personal contact, maintaining a professional tone at all times. Must also have ability to maintain confidentiality.

Quality of Work: Must be able to provide high-quality, accurate work. Must be able to quickly and efficiently transition between multiple critical tasks and remain focused under stress. Must have ability and willingness to show initiative in completing work assignments. Other Abilities: Hear and understand sound sources coming through a communications headset; speak and write English clearly; read and discern visual images on a variety of media.

Technical Knowledge: Must acquire and maintain a working knowledge of public safety communications equipment, practices and procedures to include but not limited to: departmental protocol and instructions, department specific software systems, the University of Alabama campus buildings and locations, appropriate law enforcement codes.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience in a customer service-oriented environment; dispatch; Security or law enforcement; or experience in dispatch, operator or call-center experience in a high-volume environment.
