Description
The Research Technician under the general direction of the Principal Investigator or senior-level scientists, contributes to research projects in the Center for Microbiology and Immunology by executing techniques and procedures with minimal instruction. Performs routine research/laboratory duties under supervision including animal colony management and maintains laboratory equipment and related supplies. 

This position allows a Research Technician to develop their skills and to increase their level of independent judgment and contribution to the research goals. At the discretion of the Principal Investigator or senior-level scientists, this individual has sufficient experience to contribute to experiment optimization or trouble-shooting. 

Responsibilities include: Perform experiments with minimal guidance; contribute to optimizing and trouble-shooting experiments; complete experiments with efficiency of time and resources; design experiments with proper controls; analyze and interpret experimental data.

Conduct various measurements and analysis consistent with research protocol. Record, compile, and organize data according to methods and procedures established in the experimental design; operate and maintain moderately complex laboratory equipment; check equipment for malfunctions and may perform minor repairs. Prepare solutions, reagents and media; perform staining and fixing of specimens; perform routine duties maintaining the health and integrity of the animal colony. Receive and stock incoming supplies and animals. Distribute, maintain, and stock chemicals in storage and lab areas. Order supplies as directed. May provide direction to student workers. Perform other duties as assigned. 

Required Education and Experience: At least three years of experience, including animal handling. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required Skills and Abilities:
*Proficient in common molecular biomedical and cellular methodologies (ELISA, pcr, western blot, qpcr, cell culture, immunohistochemistry, and lab analysis)
*Demonstrated ability to handle animals and manage large mouse colonies
*Ability to work under minimal supervision
*Ability to repair/maintain lab equipment
*Ability to communicate effectively as part of a team

Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree
