Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field. Three years of experience in Human Resources or a related field. Human Resources Certifications preferred. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.Nature & Purpose of Position:
Provides professional level Human Resources (HR) support in functional areas including, but not limited to, classification, compensation, and employment. Proactively identifies and responds to business unit HR needs and serves as a resource with policies, procedures, and best practices.Primary Responsibilities:
Performs complex and technical human resources duties in the functional areas of employment, staffing, classification, compensation, and other assigned areas of Human Resources. Supervises, hires, evaluates, and trains staff. Answers policy and practice questions for areas of responsibility. Manages the review and approval of staff and faculty postings. Reviews and approves staff job offers. Reviews faculty appointments. Reviews and approves reclassification requests and market review requests. Reviews and approves Electronic Personnel Action Forms. Supervises the maintenance of web pages associated with the assigned areas of responsibility. Confers with staff on problems and implements solutions. Interprets policies, rules, and regulations and ensures they are followed. Performs other related duties as assigned.Other Specifications:
Position requires knowledge of Sam Houston State University policies and organizational structure, and Human Resources Department policies and procedures. Must be able to communicate effectively with administrators, faculty, staff, students, applicants, and other university departments, vendors, and off campus agencies on procedural and policy matters. Handles sensitive and confidential information ensuring compliance with university and system policies, and State and Federal legal requirements. Position requires:
- Independent judgment, initiative, and strong analytical, problem-solving, and customer service skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to write/edit documents and correspondence with attention to detail and accuracy in all assignments.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with proven ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency with Banner, PeopleAdmin, and Microsoft Office Suite, with the ability to retrieve and analyze data and/or create reports.
Travel to other SHSU campuses and conferences may be required according to department needs.This position may work remote up to 40% of the time during off peak periods with the approval of the supervisor and as needed by the department.Full Time Part Time:
