Position Summary

The Senior Grant Administrator is experienced in managing federal, state, local, and private grants and awards. The position requires knowledge and experience working with electronic research administration systems such as Banner, InfoEd, Workspace, E-grants, and NIH systems such as ASSIST and Grants.Gov submission processes. Extensive pre-award and post-award experience is required, as well as proven organization and time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines. The successful candidate will have exceptional analytical skills and bring a collaborative leadership style. This position is part of the Business Operations Office at the Graduate School of Social Work and reports to the Director of Budget and Planning.

Essential Functions

  • Liaises with Office of Research and Sponsored Projects (ORSP), GSSW faculty and staff, and various Institutes to coordinate financial processes such as subcontracts, invoices, course buyouts and joint research funding.
  • Works closely with ORSP to monitor multiple grant and financial systems and to provide appropriate documentation.
    Develops and prepares accurate and timely financial reports and prepares ad hoc reports as needed for budgeting and planning purposes.
  • Works with Institute Directors and Faculty on forecasting long-term funding of research staff and strategies to maximize full utilization of staff time across multiple sources of funding. Assists the PI and the Office of Sponsored programs with establishing subcontracts. Prepares re-budget requests and resulting amendments. Ensures compliance with applicable OMB policy and guidance.
  • Provides supervision, training, mentorship and portfolio oversight to up to two full-time employees to assure grant research staff are current and knowledgeable on DU and GSSW grant policies and processes.
  • Provides organization, leadership and guidance to PIs and grant staff on Grant audits and site reviews by funding organizations, assuring that both program and financial systems are in place and being followed by all parties involved in the grant process. Ability to reconcile the monthly and annual grant activity against the Universitys electronic reporting system.
  • Maintains a strong understanding of multi-organizational fringe benefits, indirect cost rates, leave reserve and other financial policies, and their impact on fiscal year reporting.
  • Advises Budget Director on institutional and sponsor policies and their impact on the schools financial matters. Assist faculty in the preparation of grant proposals, including budget development and the review of application requirements and required forms, as well as responsible for uploading the proposal in the grant portal. The Sr. Grant Administrator establishes guidelines for proposal submission, while assuring compliance with the Office of Research and Sponsored programs organizational timelines and standards for proposal submission.
  • Maintains grant application information, including current IDC rates, other support pages, and facility/resource descriptions.
  • Identifies and follows policies, processes, and procedures to ensure compliance, based on guidance.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Exceptional knowledge of the NIH Grants process, ASSIST, Workspace, eGrants, eRA Commons and other federal guidance and systems
  • Knowledge of OMB Uniform Guidance
  • Knowledge of the IRB process and its impact on awards
  • Experience preparing the budget tables required for submission of awards
  • Analytical skills, strong orientation to detail, and ability to manage/prioritize multiple projects
  • Ability to resolve routine problems using existing guidelines and processes
  • Ability to make independent decisions and or/recommendations when necessary
  • Ability to be flexible, proactive, and results-oriented
  • Ability to learn new software packages required
  • Ability to research, investigate, analyze, reconcile, and evaluate data. Ability to understand and effectively communicate complex financial reports and other information to individuals with varying levels of experience
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to interact with senior faculty
  • Expert knowledge of Excel
  • Demonstrated ability to work with confidential and privileged information required
  • Demonstrated commitment, knowledge, and ability to effectively engage individuals from broadly diverse communities

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree plus 3-4 years of research administration or related experience in academia, research or health care.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting or masters degree

Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. This position is eligible for remote work.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is 11.

Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $70,000-$78,000.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidates sex or any other protected status.
