Job Summary/Basic Function:The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate studio art, especially 3D: 3D design, sculpture, ceramics and art history courses in the Department of Studio and Digital Arts; and assisting with supply maintenance and kiln room technology for the 3D studios. Responsibilities also include working outside the classroom by advising students, attendance at departmental and school events, and keeping regular office hours. Working collaboratively with other SADA and SCA full-time faculty with students and especially recruitment, senior and/or graduate thesis exhibitions, portfolio reviews, and assessments. Assisting with program management and oversight of Studio Art curricula: all SADA majors, minors, program objectives, goals, and outcomes; including new course development and/or course upgrades. Continuing creative activities/research agenda, and remains abreast of existing and emerging technologies, processes, products, services and leading industry performance benchmarks. Working effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s mission. Other duties, including department/school committee work, as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:Master’s Degree in studio art or art history required.
Preferred Qualifications:MFA or other terminal degree with an exhibition record of three-dimensional work and kiln management preferred. Experienced and sensitive to working with students from diverse backgrounds, students with disabilities or special needs, students in online/distance programs, and students coming from a Biblical worldview preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of pedagogy and teaching methodologies appropriate to all levels of students majoring in art disciplines, and/or those who are using the course as a general education requirement. Knowledge of global art history from prehistoric through present day; knowledge of studio art, foundation, design, sculpting, portfolio development, processes, techniques, and practices employed by artists. Knowledge of appropriate classroom technology, to include the learning management system such as Canvas (or similar). Knowledge of 3D printing and any background in product or industrial and sustainable design is desirable. Should possess a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, scholarship, service, and technology application in the classroom.
