The Department of Chemistry at Millersville University invites applications for a one-year temporary position in Chemistry at the Assistant Professor rank beginning August 2022. A Ph.D. in Chemistry completed by the time of appointment is required. Primary teaching responsibilities will include lectures, recitations, and laboratories in introductory and/or organic chemistry. The ability to teach chemistry at the undergraduate level is required and must be addressed in at least two letters of reference. Commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring at the undergraduate level with students from diverse backgrounds is essential. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills and a successful interview and teaching demonstration are required.

- A cover letter summarizing how the applicant’s education and experience match the required qualifications of the position.

- Ph.D. in Chemistry completed by the time of appointment.

TEACHING AND PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:Academic year workload—24 contact hours (full-time). No more than three preparations per semester. Primary teaching responsibility is in introductory and/or organic chemistry lectures, recitations, and laboratories. Hold a minimum of five office hours per week on no fewer than three days. Prepare course outline and syllabus, develop course materials and lesson plans, engage in the selection of textbook and other teaching aids necessary to the instruction of courses. Conduct classroom instruction for one or more courses in the curriculum at the higher education level. Teach pertinent course subject using lectures, demonstrations, class discussion, and other appropriate modes of educational delivery. Lead and monitor classroom instruction that promotes the educational and learning process in keeping with faculty academic freedom and responsibility. Foster student development. Participate in co-curricular activities such as department colloquia and honors seminars. Maintain laboratories and equipment. Be available to faculty and students for consultation and questions in your area of expertise.

The Millersville University Chemistry program is ACS-approved. The department has 11 faculty and approximately 100 undergraduate majors enrolled in B.S. chemistry programs, including options in biochemistry, engineering instrumentation automation, environmental, nanotechnology, polymer, and 3+4 pre-pharmacy, and a B.S.Ed. program in chemistry. Undergraduate education at Millersville is student-focused and includes a required research experience for all chemistry majors. Each faculty member has an individual research space, and student participation in peer-reviewed research is encouraged. The Chemistry Department maintains a wide range of instrumentation used for instructional labs as well as research endeavors.
