Search for the Dean of the College of Professional and Continuing Education

Omaha, Nebraska

Creighton University, a nationally ranked, private, Jesuit, Catholic university, seeks an entrepreneurial, visionary, dynamic, and collaborative leader to serve as the inaugural Dean of the newly formed College of Professional and Continuing Education (CPCE).

To better serve the lifelong learning needs of working adults while remaining responsive to ever-evolving industry talent needs, Creighton is creating CPCE by merging its College of Professional Studies and its Center for Professional and Corporate Excellence into a single, standalone College. The CPCE Dean will bring the vision of this new College to reality providing energetic, results-oriented leadership to deliver quality educational opportunities for lifelong learners and custom training for businesses and industry—all in Creighton’s Jesuit tradition of excellence. To accomplish this, the Dean must be a forward-looking and innovative builder, with the ability to align College, University, and industry stakeholders around a common vision. While the preferred candidate may come from any field or discipline, the new Dean must possess the academic, financial, and strategic acumen, as well as the academic credibility and collaborative personality, to work across disciplinary and college boundaries to build, develop, and offer excellent and relevant programming. The Dean must bring a deep appreciation for the dynamic relationship between higher education and workforce development, as well as a passion for creative partnerships and programs that break down traditional silos to serve lifelong learners, making Creighton a hub for continuing education in Nebraska and Phoenix, the Midwest and the Southwest, and beyond.

At Creighton University, students are encouraged and challenged to grow intellectually, socially, and spiritually in a welcoming atmosphere that both fosters community and supports individual needs and development. Creighton enrolls nearly 9,000 students in its undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs, with undergraduate degrees awarded in the arts and sciences, business, and nursing. Creighton offers professional programs across nine schools and colleges in dentistry, law, medicine, nursing, occupational therapy, pharmacy, and physical therapy. It also offers online, certificate, and adult degree completion programs across University units.  Creighton is rooted in the spirituality of St. Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Society of Jesus, which continues to inform and inspire how the University educates students – with an emphasis on Ignatian charisms such as finding God in all things; discerning the “magis,” or the better course of action; and engaging the world “through a careful analysis of context, in dialogue with experience evaluated through reflection, for the sake of action, and with openness, always, to evaluation.”

To be successful, the new Dean will face a number of opportunities and challenges, listed below:

  • Drive a vision of Creighton University as a distinctive leader in continuing education;
  • Cultivate a diverse array of high quality, industry-responsive academic programs;
  • Ensure efficient systems, processes, and operations across the College;
  • Effectively manage CPCE resources and drive revenue generation for the College;
  • Meet the needs of industry partners through strategic partnerships and collaborations.
