Description:

Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, Student Support Services STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, and Health Science) seeks applications for the position of Program Coordinator. Student Support Services STEM, with the mission of increasing the retention and graduation rates of program participants, is funded through a grant from the United States Department of Education (TRIO) and serves income-eligible, first-generation college or students with disabilities who are enrolled at TAMUCC. This position is grant-funded; continued grant funding is necessary for the continuation of this position. Under general supervision, the Program Coordinator coordinates the planning, development, and implementation of the TRIO SSS-STEM program's needs. The Program Coordinator's purpose is to help oversee the SSS-STEM grant activities and provide day-to-day coordination of tasks under the program's operational plan. Also, it ensures the program operates in full compliance with TRIO SSS-STEM U.S. DOE policies.

Responsibilities:

Administrative- 35%
  • Supports planning, coordination, and program development of SSS-STEM and its activities
  • Collaborates with others to develop new and expanded program components primarily in the areas of financial literacy
  • Implements services specified in grant with a strong emphasis on Financial Aid Counseling, Financial Assistance, Financial Literacy Counseling to address the goals and objectives of the program to comply with the requirements of the Higher Education Act of 1965
  • Develops and maintains relationships with stakeholders
  • Coordinates recruitment and selection of SSS-STEM participants, assists students with the application process, determines student's eligibility, and coordinates students' needs assessments
  • Supervises, evaluates, and provides professional development for part-time staff while also developing training modules for staff training
  • Manages the SSS-STEM Coaches by appointing/hiring coaches to meet requested needs, supervising and providing orientation training for coaches, and recording and maintaining coach files and records
  • Supports and serves as a role model for our mission, vision, strategic, and service initiatives
  • Adheres and ensures implementation of the organization's policies, procedures, and compliance guidelines
  • Ensures the advising process's effectiveness by maintaining both paper and electronic database grant participant files for all grant participants, regularly updating academic reports and advising session notes, and validating the information contained in the files with the student database. Assures the accuracy, completeness, and confidentiality of participants' files by working with the Program Director to assemble and maintain the components of the student file
  • Fulfill any other duties requested by the Director in which job-related circumstances may demand


Student Focused: 35%
  • Coordinates and implements the Financial Literacy/Success Boot Camp to help meet all the goals and objectives of the SSS-STEM Competitive Preference Priorities
  • Provides student financial success training during the academic year and during the summer bridge to focus on financial planning for postsecondary education, household money management, decision-making skills, and debt management
  • Coordinates the College Readiness Bridge Program to increase STEM major readiness
  • Coordinates orientation, events, workshops, cultural enrichment, graduate school visits, and volunteer activities
  • Provides a holistic approach to advising/coaching. Provides academic, career, social/personal, financial, and graduate school advising to individuals and groups of SSS-STEM participants
  • Maintains a caseload of program participants and provide them with services and activities as indicated on their Individual Service Plans
  • Attends appropriate SSS-STEM related workshops and conferences


Program Management: 20%
  • In charge of Financial Success Bootcamp as a new component to dramatically increase the personal financial literacy of participating college of SSS-STEM student's
  • Plans, implements, and evaluations of program components to meet SSS-STEM goals and objectives for Annual Performance Reporting
  • Designs Sense of Belonging workshop to provide an avenue for participants
  • Assists in establishing short- and long-term goals, objectives, policies, and procedures for strategic planning for SSS-STEM
  • Coordinates activities with the Academic Success Coach, Admissions, Student and Academic Support Services, and STEM Advisors to ensure a college-wide approach
  • Oversees semester workshops for SSS-STEM participants
  • Assist in overseeing the programs coaching component, lead the program's outreach student initiatives, and assist the Director with other program activities


Data Management & Reporting: 10%
  • Implement, monitor, and track SSS-STEM participants financial-literacy counseling per Competitive Preference Priorities
  • Provides information needed for decision making by keeping current and accessible TRIO enrollment records, managing, and maintaining data into the SSS-STEM tracking software, and preparing and submitting reports on the TRIO student population as requested by the Program Director
  • Assists Director with Annual Performance Report and Academic Affairs Division reports such as WEAVE


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, Counseling, STEM, Administration, or a related human services field.
  • Four (4) years' experience working as an advisor, counselor, or instructor with undergraduates.
  • Education and experience can be substituted for minimum qualifications:
  • Associates & Six (6) years of experience
  • Master's & Two (2) years of experience
  • Ability to advise and counsel students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of college systems and processes including financial aid, advising, registration, use of administrative software and other critical function.
  • Ability to adapt and respond to multiple priorities and demands in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment, and deal effectively and timely with the concerns of faculty, administrators, employees, and students.
  • Ability to handle data collection, tracking, and written data analysis skills necessary to prepare required reports, analysis, and documentation of outcomes.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Five (5) years of experience providing educational-out-reach &/or enrichment services to underrepresented students with experiences with financial literacy.
  • Two (2) years of appropriate and relevant professional experience working in a TRIO federal program or similar related program/project for underrepresented and at-risk college students.
  • Experience coordinating programs in complex settings serving diverse populations.
  • Experience coordinating and supervising programming and field experiences.
  • Strong work ethic under minimal supervision, including attention to detail, time management, and multi-tasking.
  • Ability to use Banner, ARGOS, DegreePlanner, Blumen database and run reports.
  • Ability to recruit students at academic fair/expo type events.
