Description
I. Qualifications:

A. Education:

1. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; earned baccalaureate degree in nursing.

2. Graduate of an accredited nurse anesthesia program.

3. Holds a minimum of a doctoral degree in nursing or related field.

4. Has appropriate preparation in the area of instruction and demonstrates an interest in the educational process.

5. Has a minimum of 2-3 years of experience as a nurse anesthetist and demonstrates a strong background in clinical anesthesia.

6. Maintains current and valid District of Columbia licensure for registered nursing and nurse anesthesia; holds current certification by the Council of Recertification of Nurse Anesthesia.

B. Expertise:

1. Demonstrates ability to instruct and provide students with knowledge of principles and theory of anesthesia, equipment and techniques.

2. Remains current in theories and methods of instruction by:

a. recertification through the Council on Recertification;

b. current membership in the AANA;

c. attending departmental and hospital in-services;

d. reviewing anesthesia literature;

e. attending state, local and national meetings;

II. Specific Duties

A. Job Relationship:

Has an appointment with the School of Nursing in the DNAP.

1. Responsible to the Program Director and Assistant Director

2. Guides and collaborates with instructors in providing lecture and lab related activities.

B. Responsibilities

1. Serves as course director in all assigned courses per Program Director. Develops schedules, topics and objectives to coincide with any relevant lab work as needed.

2. Course Lectures - provides lectures in all DNAP courses scheduled by course coordinator; may serve as course coordinator as needed-as above; provides test bank questions related to lecture material.

3. Student Conferences - provides input to Director / Assistant Director with regards to student lab performance; participants in student conferences.

4. Computer technology application - in conjunction with Assistant Director facilitates the incorporation of new technologies into lab and didactic instruction; orients faculty to computer related techniques and processes.

5. Accreditation Activities - Participates in activities directed at maintaining program accreditation under the direction of the Program Director. University & SON Policies/Guidelines - Follows established standards.

6. Faculty Meetings - Attends SON monthly executive faculty meeting, DNAP monthly faculty meeting, AANA Faculty Assembly, committee meetings as scheduled.

7. Recruitment Activities - Participates in all SON recruitment events, Open Houses; participates in student interviews and admissions selection committee.

8. Publications - Publishes a minimum of one peer-reviewed manuscript each year.

9. Student Events - Participates in all program and SON student events -Graduation, Research Presentations, Scholars Day, etc.
