Job Details

Post-Doct Research AssociateThe University of Tennessee is pleased to announce an immediate opening for a postdoctoral associate position focused on the synthesis and optimization of complex oxide nanocatalysts. This position resides in the University of Tennessee (UT) Institute for Advanced Materials and Manufacturing (IAMM) and the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, supervised by Prof. Katharine Page.

Position Description:

The successful candidate will work with a diverse research and development team, investigating relationships between catalyst performance/stability and compositional complexity, sample morphology, and internal defects/disorder. The candidate will use on-campus facilities at IAMM and X-ray and neutron user facilities to characterize spatial variations in morphology/microstructure, chemical short-range order, and other defects/disorder correlations across material length scales. The position will allow the postdoctoral scientist to develop expertise, broaden experience and to interact with a diverse set of scientists at UT and at nearby Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).  The initial appointment is a temporary full-time assignment of 12 months.

The applicant must have a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering, Chemistry, Physics or a related field.  The successful candidate will have experience in the synthesis of nanomaterials, proficiency in solid-state chemistry methods, experience with laboratory-based characterization (diffraction, microscopy, thermal, catalytic and other physical property measurements), expertise and interest in neutron and synchrotron methods for advanced structural characterization (both experiments and data analysis), and a demonstrated track record in publishing.  Experience and interest in the theoretical and experimental exploration of compositionally complex materials will be favorably considered. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required. The candidate must be available for occasional travel to national user facilities.

Interested candidates should provide a cover letter summarizing their qualifications and a curriculum vitae that includes contact information for three references. Questions and application materials should be directed to Professor Page ([email protected]). Application materials should be received before July 8, 2022 for full consideration.
