27-Jun-2022 Close All Job SummaryThe CU Police Department (CUPD) encourages applications for a temporary Police Communications Technician! This position exists to protect the lives, health, safety and property of the public by expeditiously receiving, analyzing, interpreting, evaluating and prioritizing multiple simultaneous emergency requests for law-enforcement, fire, ambulance and rescue services and allocating, deploying and supervising the activities of responding units; to provide service to the University community, the general public, other public safety departments and outside agencies by receiving, analyzing, interpreting, evaluating and prioritizing multiple simultaneous non-emergency requests for information and assistance; to allocate, deploy and supervise the activities of the required non-emergency services; to advise the request to the appropriate person, department or agency for resolution; to provide communications and information resource support for field units and outside agencies under various appropriate mutual aid agreements.

The CUPD is a full-service police agency with 46 sworn and 36 non-sworn employees providing community-based public safety services to a diverse community of 36,000 affiliates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, all year long. Every year the department responds to approximately 20,000 calls for service and ensures the safety and security for all of their PAC-12 Conference athletic events with attendance at football games exceeding 50,000 fans. Patrolling the campus by foot, bicycle, motorcycle, and vehicle, the CUPD Police work diligently with the University community and surrounding agencies to ensure a timely and coordinated law enforcement response.What You Should Know
  • All University of Colorado Boulder employees are required to comply with the campus COVID-19 vaccine requirement. New employees must provide proof of vaccination or receive a medical or religious exemption within 30 days of employment.
  • This is a temporary, on-call position anticipated to last 12 months.
  • This position is fully in-person.
  • This position does not have a set schedule and is on call as needed. Hours scheduled may vary.
What We Can Offer
  • The pay range is $35.50 - $36.56 per hour.

  • 5 years of experience as a Police Communication Technician
What You Will Need
  • Proven ability to handle multiple demands simultaneously, deal with interruptions, and handle difficult situations under time pressure. Ability to communicate clearly and optimally.
  • Ability to receive, comprehend, and rapidly relay accurate information.
  • Ability to maintain self-control during periods of extreme stress and pressure.
  • Ability to work closely with others to maintain calm, efficient operations.
  • Proven interpersonal, problem solving, and conflict resolution skills. Attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Flexibility and willingness to change.
  • Ability to learn communication system.
  • Ability to learn and apply a variety of public safety specific technology and programs efficiently.
  • Ability to obtain CPR certification.
  • Acceptable background information including criminal history.
  • Due to the inherent duties of this position, applicants selected to continue will undergo a thorough background investigation.

  • Associate’s Degree
  • Previous experience with CAD
