Summary of Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Associate Bursar, this position is responsible for the following:

  • Processes tuition waivers
    • Murray State Tuition Waivers
      • Maintain database for employee usage
      • Provide payroll information needed for taxation
    • State Waivers
      • Provide payroll information needed for taxation at other schools
    • CPA Waivers
  • Processes Third Party Contracts which require a billing statement to Vendor
    • Military Tuition Assistance
    • Navy

    • Other duties assigned by Bursar and Associate Bursar

Minimum Education Requirements:

  • Two years of college in a business related field

Minimum Experience and Skill Requirements:

  • Four years of general accounting experience
  • Should be organized, analytical, flexible, alert, and possess initiative and maturity
  • Must possess ability to perform concise and accurate work, ability to make informed decisions, ability to handle confidential information, and handle stressful financial, academic and enrollment situations which arise frequently.
  • Excellent written, oral and reading communication skills in order to accurately obtain, interpret a variety of communications and instructions.
  • Must be persistent and professional, with an understanding of how to use computer software related to the job.
  • Must exhibit courteous behavior and understanding in dealing with students.
  • Must work well individually and as a department member.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to adjust and interact with all levels of personnel
  • Must be able to multitask, able to set priorities and meet deadlines and take pride on ones’ work.
  • Attend conferences, classes, and webinars as directed by management; in an effort to keep informed about software programs, FERPA, or changes in university policy.
  • Moderate supervision of student workers

  • Overtime may be required in order to insure that work in completed in a timely manner
  • This position experiences a heavy workload at the beginning of the fall semester (August) and the spring semester (January). The nature of the workflow limits amount of vacation time in the months of January, July, August, November or December.

The main campus comprises more than 70 major buildings, including classroom and office buildings and two libraries. The Waterfield Library houses the circulating collection, reference sources, government documents, microforms and periodicals. The historic Pogue Library contains special materials relating to the history and culture of west Kentucky and the region. Murray State also operates the Pullen Farm, Hancock Biological Station, Breathitt Veterinary Center and The Arboretum at Murray State. In addition to the main campus in Murray, the University's regional campuses and educational presences include Fort Campbell, Henderson, Hopkinsville, Madisonville and Paducah.
