Overview

Menlo College is seeking an entrepreneurial, inspiring, results-focused leader to build on the strong foundation of its Career Services Office and award-winning signature academic internship program. As our next leader of the Office of Internships and Career Services (ICS), you will strategize and expand programs by partnering with the academic deans to support new global education initiatives and create career service offerings for new master’s programs. You will play an important role in strengthening the integration of Academic Affairs, Career Services, and Student Success programs.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop and execute the strategic plan for Internships and Career Services (ICS) in accordance with the College’s mission, vision and values.

• Define, benchmark, measure, report, and deliver recommendations based on Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) to the Vice President for Student Success and Strategic Planning.

• Represent the ICS office in meetings with the Board of Trustees, senior leadership, faculty senate, and third parties; serve on key committees and task forces as needed.

• Oversee ICS policies, budget, personnel, and programs.

• Provide leadership and training, conduct performance evaluations, and facilitate professional development opportunities for ICS staff and student workers.

• Coordinate curriculum updates, manage administration of, and recommend instructors for the academic internship program to the Dean of Business; train new internship program faculty.

• Depending on qualifications, you will have the opportunity to teach relevant internship, career, and/or student success courses as an adjunct faculty member.

• Maintain relationships with existing employer partners and develop partnerships with strategically important employers.

• Provide individualized career and internship advising through scheduled appointments and drop-in times.

• Lead staff to plan, coordinate, and execute signature events such as Mock Interview Day and Career Connect Day.

• Using a developmental approach, strategize, develop, and deliver appropriate offerings for students at each step of their journey from the First Year Experience through post-graduation.

• Collaborate with the Dean of Business to develop internship and employment opportunities in conjunction with Silicon Valley Immersion, Academic Global Immersion, and other international programs.

• Create and propose strategy for graduate program career and internship programs, including resource and staffing proposals.

• Serve as administrator for Handshake, the College’s online career management portal.

• Continuously grow and strengthen ICS’s reputation on- and off-campus.

• Model career readiness competencies in demeanor, dress, attitude, and work ethic.

• Nurture an environment where commonalities and differences among people are recognized; and be a champion of diversity, equity, and inclusion best practices.

• Address the needs of a diverse population when establishing and implementing policies and procedures and developing opportunities for students.

• Ensure that privacy and confidentiality are maintained with respect to all communications and records (to the extent such records are protected under the law and appropriate ethical practice).

• Other duties as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications

• Master’s degree in education, career or vocational counseling, human resources, student services, or related fields; or equivalent experience

• Minimum three years’ experience in career services, employer relations, recruiting, or related field

• Experience interfacing and partnering with employers and organizations, including corporations, startups, nonprofits, NGOs, and government agencies

• Demonstrated expertise in program development, marketing, and assessment

• Knowledge of experiential learning and career development theories and best practices

• Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills in areas of team leadership, collaboration, creative problem solving, and decision-making

 

Preferred Qualifications

• Doctorate in education, business, or related field

• Campus recruiting and/or college or university relations experience

• Administrator-level experience with career services platforms (e.g., Handshake)

• Professional experience in resume writing, interviewing coaching, career counseling, career coaching, life coaching, or similar

• Professional experience in teaching or training

• Knowledge of Bay Area employers

• Knowledge of global career and experiential learning opportunities

• Member of National Association of Colleges and Employers, or similar professional association

• Knowledge of best practices for social media engagement
