The Oncology Research RN position performs professional nursing duties such as physician assistance, sample collection, information gathering, patient follow‐up, data collection, medication administration, collaboration, patient education, emergency response, patient preparation, and sedation.

Duties:

    Assists physician during the examination as neededPrepares patient for examinationEnsures that all information is available to the physicianCollects samples from patients to include but not limited to blood, urine, etc.Prepares samples for analysis or shipmentTakes and records various readings to include but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, blood pressure, weight, body temperature, etc.Makes or follows up on patient appointmentsAnswers routine questions from patients, family, or caregiversProvides educational information to patients, family, or caregiversCollects all laboratory reports, data, and recordsUnder direction of physician or other medical personnel, administers medication to patientsCollaborates with other healthcare professionals to provide efficient quality patient careResponds to and intervenes in emergency situations to include but not limited to anaphylaxis, hypoglycemia, hypotension, hemorrhage, respiratory distress, etc.Directs and evaluates the work of some personnel to include but not limited to Clinic Clerks, Medical Assistants, and other NursesActs as a lead employee when work performed requires little or no direct supervisionAssists with conscious sedation of patientsPerforms various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position


Job Location
Education: Associate’s Degree in Nursing

Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing

Certifications or Licenses:

    State of Oklahoma Registered Nurse Licensure Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
Skills:

    Advanced knowledge of techniques needed to diagnose and treat illness or injury related issues, to includes but not limited to treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health care measuresAdvanced knowledge of (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)Ability to give full attention to what is being said and understand the points being madeAbility to ask questions when appropriateExcellent verbal and written communication skillsAbility to deal with staff, physicians, visitors, vendors, and patients in a tactful, diplomatic, and pleasant mannerAbility to work in stressful situations and meet deadlinesMust be detail oriented and organizedAbility to work independently and as a team memberBasic math and computer skills.Detail oriented for accuracy of data and informationWell organized and ability to handle multiple projects and deadlineAbility to build and maintain rapport with students, faculty, staff, and providers. Ability to solve problems
Working Conditions:

    Physical: Standing for prolonged periods. Regular bending, stooping, reaching, pulling and pushingEnvironmental: Frequent exposure to odors and exposure to human blood, blood products, bodily fluids and potential exposure to infections or diseases.
