Job Summary/Basic Function:

Ringling College of Art and Design is recruiting a pool of candidates to assist with Gallery and Exhibition preparations. The Preparators work closely with gallery administrators, curators, artists students, and other college staff to produce high-quality exhibitions, and assist in the preparation, security, installation and de-installation of gallery exhibitions and other display materials. Key responsibilities include coordination of fine art handling and display, packing, crating, transporting, lighting and maintenance of exhibitions, galleries, fine art storage areas, and preparatory spaces.

Must have ability to install and operate digital works of art including video, films and audio recordings being projected. Must have strong time management and organizational skills, with ability to meet deadlines efficiently. Successful incumbent must have a working knowledge of fine art handling procedures for two-and–three-dimensional art objects in a variety of materials, sizes, and weights, including the rigging and movement of art, mount making principles, and lighting concepts. Knowledge of fine art handling training practices and procedures. Ability to explain and carry out methods and procedures relating to the handling of irreplaceable objects of fine art. Knowledge of safe art storage, packing, crating, lighting and transport techniques and procedures. Ability to interpret working drawings and implement design concepts, and knowledge of the design and construction of museum exhibits; experience in using standard tools, practices and methods in painting and basic carpentry; skill in the safe use and care of standard hand and power tools; and knowledge of safety regulations, practices and procedures. Must have excellent communications skills (oral and written) and excellent interpersonal skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

· High School diploma or equivalent· Possess or an ability to possess a valid Florida Drivers’ license

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
Ability to climb ladders and stairs; and ability to work on scaffolding or ladders. Ability to lift materials up to 50 pounds without assistance; ability to stoop, bend, and kneel; ability to stand for up to eight (8) hours per day. Ability to safely operate power tools, and other equipment and machinery that requires constant attention. Ability to work around paints, solvents, and other similar products in a gallery environment and around historic and fine art artifacts that may give off dust.

Preferred Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree or BFA.· Two years of responsible experience directly related to the job functions· Demonstrated successful experience in installing exhibitions and handling valuable works of fine art using American Alliance of Museums (AAM) and museum industry standards.
