Under limited supervision, maintains and follows a safe, productive, cost effective, and comprehensive planned and corrective maintenance program for constant reliable operations relating to all carpentry, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing needs within assigned buildings by receiving work orders; communicating with the Call Center and the supervisor; planning, inspecting, verifying, communicating, and problem-solving assigned maintenance issues; ensuring that all work performed follows the departmental and OSHA safety guidelines, policies, and regulations; and ensuring that all facility systems are in safe working order and compliant with national and local codes and regulations while exhibiting professionalism in conduct, appearance, and work practices. Performs complex journey level carpentry work to include the use of saws, planers, nail guns, screw guns, levels and hand tools to make repairs and ensure compliance with local codes.Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions):
Assists with the coordination of the installation of new and modified maintenance-related systems at the supervisor’s direction to include, but not limited to, reading blueprints, schematics, or drawings; consulting with University Project Managers, contractors, and sub-contractors to provide information on existing systems that may be affected during a project and advice on requirements for future construction projects; and troubleshooting new or newly modified systems to assure proper functioning of the system.
High school diploma and 6 years directly related trade experience.Preferred Qualifications:
High school diploma and 6 years experience in a commercial or residential trades occupation including but not limited to Plumbing, Electrical, HVAC, and Carpentry with knowledge of national and local code requirements for trades area.Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
South Carolina drivers license preferred.
Trade license and or certification preferred.
Knowledge of general maintenance requirements, maintenance requirements specific to trades background, safe work practices, and typical hazards within the work place. Ability to work within established resources, communicate in writing and orally to management, maintain accurate records, operate computer systems, organize work materials, plan and prioritize work, develop and use strong customer service skills, maintain a harmonious relationship within team members and other departmental staff, work independently, demonstrate dedication to team work and customer service, utilize safe work practices, and promote safety in the work place.Safety Sensitive or Security Sensitive:
