Research Assistant
The IAM Lab seeks an energetic, self-directed Research Assistant (RA) with strong interest in learning about effects of the arts on well-being. This RA will be assisting with an 18-month multidisciplinary, multinational study of the effects of various art forms on empathy and justice. RA will have excellent written and oral communication skills, project management experience (e.g., scheduling, coordination, documentation, etc); demonstrated attention to detail, and an ability to adapt quickly to changing needs.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Assist with research products and deliverables (May include literature reviews, drafting reports, contacting study team members and study subjects, conducting interviews, etc.)
  • Assist with data analysis, including statistical analyses and/or coding for qualitative studies
  • Write/edit materials
  • Schedule meetings; develop project management tools and timeline; document meetings and milestones—including tracking decision points and follow up items
  • Take notes during meetings/events
  • Upload and organize files, paperwork, etc. on a shared drive
  • Interact regularly with investigators and collaborators to facilitate a smooth flow for study procedures/activities
  • Report on study progress
  • Potential: Travel to Istanbul in Oct/Nov 2022 for a gathering of the full international study team (If travel is necessary, expenses would be covered)
  • Other tasks as needed


Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline
  • Some related experience
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula*


* JHU Equivalency Formula: 18 graduate degree credits (semester hours) may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

** Applicants who do not meet the posted requirements but are completing their final academic semester/quarter will be considered eligible for employment and may be asked to provide additional information confirming their academic completion date.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
