Job Purpose:

The Program Coordinator position within Gonzaga’s Payne Center for Leadership Development (PCLD) works as a team member within the larger Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Community of Practice at Gonzaga University. Serving as one of three positions within the PCLD, this person assists in the operation of experiential leadership programming and student leadership development including program coordination, facilitation, promotion, assessment, recruiting and outreach. This position works with campus staff and faculty to assist in integrated learning and best practices of student leadership development. The Program Coordinator supports the mission of the University and PCLD. This position reports to the Director of the Payne Center for Leadership Development.

Function Details:

  • Assist in the creation, coordination, planning, organization and facilitation of retreats, workshops, conferences, campus-wide trainings, speakers, retreats, mentoring initiatives and cohort-based leadership programs (i.e. Payne Fellows Program).
  • Program assessment including survey administration, data collection, research, and report preparation
  • Assists in processing and tracking specific program budget
  • Apply equity lens to training, program operations, and partnerships.

Function Details:

  • Advising and supervising the Payne Fellows, undergraduate student interns
  • Recruits, trains, oversees, and advises paid student leaders
Team and Operational Effectiveness:
  • Meet regularly, at least once a month, with all direct reports
  • Manage performance on an ongoing basis throughout the year
  • Ensure effective performance management for indirect reports
  • Create and ensure opportunities for team development through multiple mechanisms and support recognition efforts that build morale
  • Steward all resources, including budget, effectively and appropriately
  • Meet operational targets, develop innovate solutions, and continuously improve department and operational efforts
  • Support and contribute to hiring efforts that meet our operational and mission needs
Develop and Support Inclusive Environments:
  • Ensure all staff are effectively onboarded to their role
  • Actively build relationships and demonstrate a bias for collaboration.
  • Address and resolve conflicts.
  • Communicate regularly with all team members through multiple mechanisms

  • Participate in PCLD, Student Affairs and professional development opportunities. Topics include, but are not limited to, the Intercultural Development Inventory, Intercultural Conflict Styles, Strengths Quest, anti-racism, diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience working in leadership programs in a college or high school setting.
  • Proficiency on Microsoft Word, Excel, SharePoint and Power Point; working knowledge of social media/writing experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to relate and collaborate with students, faculty/staff, and the public. Demonstrated skill in public speaking
  • Experience working with individuals with diverse identities and systemically marginalized populations.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with Strengthsquest

Physical / Environmental Qualifications :

  • Wrist and hand movements related to computer work
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position 70% of the time
  • Ability to prep for and attend in-person, online, and hybrid meetings and events
