Job Description:

Undergraduate Academic Advising:

Advises all of the residential undergraduate student population regarding academic core and/or departmental requirements, appropriate course selection, academic policies/procedures, and campus resources

Assists students with identification of long-term goals and career plans. Works to position students to meet requirements for timely graduation while preparing them to achieve future career goals.

Maintains student and advising records in accordance with state/federal law and university regulations.

Resolves student issues with the implementation of academic resources and/or programs. Interprets University policies, procedures and curriculum to students, faculty and staff.

Models the core values for the National Association for Academic Advising (NACADA) for an Academic Advisor.

Responsible for the coordination of termly processes – reports include probationary contracts, universal tracking, etc.

Monitors student performance (i.e., reviewing degree audits, transcripts, etc.) to track progress towards timely graduation.

Assists with student enrollment, retrieving student records, tracking forms, and scheduling appointments.

Answers inquiries by mail, email, telephone, and in person.

Serves as back-up advisor for UF Online students and entire residential student population.

Academic Support duties:

Represent the college/department at information sessions for incoming and prospective students and families (online workshops, online chats and in person sessions, recruiting events, awards ceremonies, Preview, and Florida Days).

Identify those students whose academic or extracurricular activities make them eligible for college, university, or national scholarships, awards, honors, and recognition.

Works with department internship coordinator to ensure students are eligible for internship.

Assists department with preliminary and final degree certification, including processing late degree applications and identification of honors students. Serves on appropriate department, college, and/or campus advisor committees.

Supports the college in the yield of Upper Division Transfer applications through providing (either through compilation of necessary materials or execution) timely admissions decisions and forecasting number of available spots for upper division transfer students; assesses initial student academic needs through review of prior coursework.

Participate in HHP advising meetings, working groups and task forces related to the ongoing success and support of HHP and Sport Management programs and students.

Academic Affairs Evaluation and Planning:

Participates in, and complies with, academic advising office assessment program.

Collect and analyze student data related to: academic performance, student satisfaction, post-graduation activities, etc.

Expected Salary:

Commensurate with experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Master's degree in education, counseling, or an academic field directly related to the advisor's area of responsibility; or a bachelor's degree in education, counseling, or an academic field directly related to the advisor's area of responsibility and one year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with advising online/distance/transfer learning students.

Experience with People Soft and Salesforce.

Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.

Maintain good working relationship with departmental faculty, staff and students.

Daily contact with future and current undergraduate students and their family members to discuss academic planning.

Frequent contact with faculty, professional staff and administrators at UF.
