Allegheny College, a small selective national liberal arts college, invites applications for the position of Contract Manager. The position is a full-time exempt position reporting to the Director of Physical Plant. The Physical Plant Department is responsible for the operations and maintenance, renovations, and construction of all buildings, grounds, and utilities of the College. These services are provided to develop and maintain a functional, attractive, healthy, and safe educational environment for the campus community conducive to learning and to support the College’s mission and tradition of excellence. The Department has dedicated, professional staff trained in every principle trade required to provide these services and/or to oversee contracted services that the Department does not directly provide.

The Contract Manager is an integral member of Allegheny College Physical Plant Administrative team. The ideal candidate will build positive relationships with clients, stakeholders, and the Physical Plant Department, have detailed knowledge of contract and construction processes, and be able to balance multiple priorities in a focused manner.

Responsibilities:

  • Supports operations, short and long range programs and serves as a collaborative liaison with external stakeholders, contract personnel, and cross-functional areas within the organization.
  • Organizes, plans, and oversees contract execution, tests new systems and enhancements, and serves on committees to support college initiatives.
  • Manages, organizes, and oversees all functions of contract management, warranty, and quality assurance program including daily operations, scheduling, quality control, work-order management, contract submittals, long-term planning, budget, safety, contract lifecycle, and oversight of various projects (service, major capital, special, maintenance, technology and/or repair).
  • Identifies, documents, and implements corrective action related to substandard performance when appropriate. Responsible for identifying opportunities to improve contract processes and procedures.
  • Creates and standardizes contract and statement of work templates as well as inspection procedures and documentation
  • Oversees the Contract Management Programs.

Minimum Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, in business administration, construction management, project management, or a related field and three to five years of experience in project or contract management.
  • Excellent organizational, customer service and time management skills are a must.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work effectively and independently within time constraints and changing priorities, and on multiple projects simultaneously

Preferred Qualifications include:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution, in business administration, construction management, project management, or a related field and seven years of experience in project or contract management. Preferred certifications include: CCMA, CPCM, Lean Six Sigma, or PMP
  • Familiarity with the construction industry, including and understanding of construction contract administration, terminology and processes preferred.
  • Experience with budgets and accounting, project management tools and processes, and creating communications documents preferred.
  • Proficiency in Google and MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat, Internet and web-based applications.
  • Ability to interact well with all levels of the college and external parties.
  • Demonstrated ability to read construction documents and provide simple, preliminary estimates
  • General knowledge of PA Procurement Code, Federal, State, and Local Building Codes.

History - 200 Years

Founded in 1815, Allegheny College ranks among the oldest 1% of colleges and universities and is the 32nd oldest college in the United States. Perhaps as many as 100 colleges were established and failed before the Civil War. Allegheny is one of the hardy survivors that testify daily to the determination and vision of those early pioneers of higher education in America.

Allegheny is situated in Meadville, Pa., which was established in 1788 in the French Creek Valley, astride the route traversed by George Washington on his journey to Fort LeBoeuf a generation earlier. In 1815, Meadville was still a raw frontier town of about 400 settlers, of whom an unusually large number had come from Massachusetts and Connecticut. They dreamed of a college that might bring the educational opportunities of New England to the frontier. The Rev. Timothy Alden was recruited to take on the task, and two months after his arrival in April 1815, Allegheny was established-with Alden as its first president. 

Within half a dozen years, Alden succeeded in attracting sufficient funds to begin building a campus, having traveled throughout the eastern states seeking support for a planned library and classroom building. The need of a building to house a library led to the construction, in the 1820s, of Bentley Hall, today a leading example of early American architecture. Designed by Alden, this handsome structure still crowns the hill on which the campus is located. It is named in honor of Dr. William Bentley, who donated his outstanding private library to the College.

Each year, as part of the Commencement ceremony, seniors march through the doors of historic Bentley Hall toward the adventures that await them. In 2015, Allegheny will celebrate its 200-year history and the extraordinary futures of the graduating Bicentennial Class of 2015.
