The Illinois Tutoring Initiative at SIUE is seeking qualified candidates for an Administrative Support Specialist position. The Support Specialist is a new position within the program and will provide clerical assistance to the program’s Director. The selected candidate will:
-Complete all new hire paperwork for tutors; develop and maintain tutoring schedules; and track attendance of tutors for tutoring sessions and ensure accuracy of time sheets.
-Maintain budgetary documents and ledger related to all grant office expenditures and create monthly budgetary spreadsheets.
-Create inventory listing of all tutoring equipment and materials as well as track equipment usage.
-Maintain department filing system, including confidential files regarding tutor matches.
Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned based on the needs of the program. This position serves as first point of contact for general tutor inquiries and is expected to provide exceptional professional and courteous customer service and guidance at all times. Ideal candidates will have K-12 experience as well as previous experience on large scale projects and/or grant funded projects. Applicants must be able to work successfully with diverse populations.
What is The Illinois Tutoring Initiative?
The Illinois Tutoring Initiative program, overseen by the Illinois Board of Higher Education, will focus on school districts disproportionately affected by the pandemic. The Illinois Tutoring Initiative will assist tutors and their K-12 students through strong training for tutors, available resources and materials, and direct connections to district curriculum. Areas for tutoring include K-8 reading, K-8 math, and 9-12 math. Tutoring will be held in small group sessions as well as individual meetings and may occur face-to-face or online. The Illinois Tutoring Initiative is a two to three-year grant-funded project that will end after funding ceases.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications:
1. High school graduation or equivalent.
2. One (1) year (12 months) of work experience comparable to the second level of this series.
3. Any one or any combination of the following, totaling two (2) years (24 months) of experience in the categories below:
a. Work experience performing office/clerical activities, including use of computer systems.
b. College or university coursework in any curriculum:
- Twelve (12) semester hours = six (6) months.
- Twenty-four (24) semester hours = twelve (12) months.
- Thirty-six (36) semester hours = eighteen (18) months.
- Forty-eight (48) semester hours = twenty-four (24) months.
-Twelve (12) months of clerical/office support work experience.
-Previous experience on large scale projects and/or grant funded projects.
-Advanced database skills and graphic design skills.
