Eastern Connecticut State University is accepting applications for the position of Accounting Associate. Eastern is located in Willimantic Connecticut 1.5 hours from Boston and 2 hours from New York City.   • Strong background in financial reporting systems
  • Strong Excel and MS Word skills and Adobe Reader
  • Experience with multi-dimensional chart of accounts a plus
  • Experience working with auditors a plus
  • Fixed Assets, cash and account reconciliation experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business or related field required.

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Associate Director of Fiscal Affairs for Accounting and Financial Systems, this position is responsible for assisting in general accounting duties related to financial processing, reconciliation, research, and reporting.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: Process and post journal entries and maintain a numbered file of those entries. Assist in the preparation of various State, Federal and System Office reports. Reconcile and monitor the University Funds with State Comptroller records. Assist with cash management functions in processing transfer invoices, CO-17 invoices for checking account replenishment and bank reconciliation. Assist in reconciliation between the fixed assets system and the University finance system. Create and maintain various financial spreadsheets for tracking, recording, analyzing, and reporting purposes. Assist with the data entry of financial data in the University financial system, which includes updating the University chart of accounts and notifying Fiscal Affairs staff. Coordinate the University escheat check procedure, which includes monitoring, mailing notifications, and recordkeeping. Assist in financial closing activities and perform year-end accounting in all funds. Electronically maintain a library of Fiscal Affairs procedures. Supervise lower level employees and student workers for project purposes. Perform duties related to those enumerated above, which do not alter the basic level of position responsibility.
