Primary Purpose of Department:

The School of Professional Studies resides within the division of Academic Affairs, reporting to the Associate Provost. The unit works collaboratively with departments, colleges, and academic support units to ensure integrated partnerships for enrollment growth, student success and faculty effectiveness in teaching.
As part of the School of Professional Studies (SPS), AV Integration and Classroom Support designs, installs, maintains, and supports effective and accessible learning environments for faculty, students, and staff.

Primary Purpose of Position:

The primary purpose of the Director is to set the strategic direction for the design, installation, maintenance, and support of effective and accessible learning environments for faculty, students, and staff. This position is responsible for providing strategic direction to the AV Integration team and the Classroom Technology and Support Services team. This position oversees the staff that facilitate inclusive learning space maintenance and design practices focused on improving learning space effectiveness and end-user experiences. The Director is responsible for creating meaningful partnerships with other campus learning space stakeholders. The Director is also responsible for leading, incubating, and implementing emerging academic technology innovation initiatives.

Summary of Position Responsibilities:

The Director will lead and oversee all learning space operations for UNC Charlotte, including the AV Integration team and the Classroom Technology and Support Services team, developing and implementing long-term strategic plans and goals to achieve the mission of high-quality instructional environments. The Director will identify opportunities to improve, and reduce the costs of, developing, installing and maintaining learning spaces at all UNC Charlotte instructional locations, including but not limited to the main campus, the Dubois Center, and other remote teaching locations.

Minimum Education/Experience:

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited university is required.
  • 5 years of experience with Academic supervisory experience (managing students, part-time or full-time employees);
  • Tier2/Tier3 customer support within Information Technology (infrastructure, operations, or development); and Audio Visual Technology work, preferably AV project management in an academic setting.
  • Experience planning and managing a diverse budget portfolio; including personnel, equipment, projects, and resource planning.
  • Strategic planning experience for the growth and maintenance of learning spaces and equipment refresh cycles.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

The preferred candidate for this position would possess the following:

  • 5 years of customer service experience in a Higher Ed environment.
  • 5 years of increasing responsibility in management experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to build operational teams around current trends in learning space design and support.
  • Thought leader in XR and its applications to learning environments and the hybrid campus.
