Position Summary::

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at The University of Alabama invites applications for non-tenure renewable contract faculty positions. Exceptional applicants are sought that have a passion for teaching and curriculum development for undergraduate and graduate classes in either advanced manufacturing systems or thermofluids science. Candidates will be considered for a one year non-tenure track Assistant Professor position subject to annual renewal.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at The University of Alabama (http://me.eng.ua.edu) invites qualified candidates to apply for multiple non-tenure track faculty positions at the Assistant Professor rank with specializations relevant to convergent and emerging areas of mechanical engineering in two broad tracks of advanced manufacturing systems and thermofluids science.

Under the advanced manufacturing systems track, particular attention will be given to candidates with expertise in robotic and automated manufacturing, Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), as well as artificial intelligence, virtual/augmented reality and connectivity applied to advanced manufacturing systems. Under the thermofluids science track, candidates with knowledge in cyber-physical energy systems, sustainable energy are being sought. The Department has established strong track records and strengths in these areas as evident by the fast rise in the number of faculty, externally funded research and collaboration with major industrial companies.

The ME department benefits from the College and University’s expansion in enrollment and facilities including completion of the $300 million Shelby Engineering and Science Quadrangle in 2014 which provides nearly 1,000,000 square feet of state-of-the-art research and instructional space. Applicants must have a doctorate (Ph.D.) in mechanical engineering or a closely related field. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate a high performance level in the classroom, actively engage students, and take a leadership role in curricular matters.
