The Sr. Research Associate within the College of Public Health’s (CPH) Department of Social and Behavior Sciences will oversee externally-funded grant studies and other research projects/activities of Dr. Sarah Bass, the Principal Investigator (PI) and Director of the Risk Communication Laboratory. This position will have an integral role in promoting high performance in a fast-paced environment by managing multiple advanced administrative functions requiring comprehensive knowledge and skills associated with public health social-sciences research. The position will be primarily responsible for the day-to-day leadership and coordination of multiple research projects.

Specifically, this position will serve as the project lead for research that uses commercial marketing techniques to develop and test communication interventions in several populations and across different health decisions. This includes projects testing a social-media based PrEP communication intervention for transgender women, a web-based decision support intervention for African American cancer patients on tumor genomic profile testing, and a community-based communication intervention to promote uptake of COVID-19 booster vaccines. Other funded projects include a study to understand race and ethnicity specific factors that influence attitudes towards genetic information and tumor genomic profiling among Latinx cancer patients, a study to understand prevalence and drivers of medical mistrust as it relates to attitudes towards genetic testing, a study regarding revisions to a workplace-based intervention for people with autism spectrum disorder about keeping safe from infectious airborne diseases, a study about gun violence in Northwest Philadelphia, and a study aimed at increasing antiretroviral therapy adherence among women living with HIV, among others.

The person will report and be accountable to the PI.

Essential Functions: The Sr. Research Associate will work closely with the PI to manage day-to-day coordination of these projects. The person will be expected to: participate in strategic planning for long-term research goals, assist with writing manuscripts and grant applications, and be responsible for progress reports for the IRB and funders; effectively communicate with partner sites, as well as other researchers, collaborators research assistants, and students; monitor the day-to-day project activities and staff to ensure timely progress and compliance with study protocols and human subjects regulations; set up and manage project data; implement projects at various sites; supervise the research work and progress of staff, including undergraduate and graduate students; and other duties as assigned.

Other responsibilities include: traveling to and conducting recruitment in hospital and community settings; liaising between all research partners and study sites; maintaining all research related data and records; obtaining informed consent and managing intervention implementation; creating and maintaining systems to manage data including longitudinal data; drafting and editing instrumentation for both qualitative and quantitative studies; coding and or leading qualitative data analysis; writing reports or assisting with writing of results; preparing conference posters, presentations, and manuscripts; assisting with background literature review and other components of grant submission; drafting IRB packages; running lab meetings and project specific meetings and note taking; preparing and posting social media for the lab; and overseeing undergraduate interns and assisting with graduate public health student fieldwork projects; Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree and at least 4 years of professional work experience in social-behavioral research.  Masters Degree in Public Health strongly preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. 

Required Skills & Abilities:
*Demonstrated experience managing multiple research projects simultaneously
*Strong critical thinking and complex problem-solving skills
*Must be comfortable working with a variety of populations including LGBTQIA people, people with cancer, people with HIV, people with substance use disorders, and other populations
*Experience with direct participant recruitment and data gathering (e.g., survey and interview data) in clinical and community settings
*Excellent interpersonal skills and effective oral and written English communicator
*Must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to multi-task in a fast-paced research environment
*Experience writing IRB protocols and management of human subjects documentation
*Must be proficient with building and managing REDCap and Qualtrics projects including fully powered RCTs
*Experience creating and maintaining data management systems
*Must be proficient with MS office products including Microsoft Teams and OneDrive
*Must be proficient with SPSS and qualitative software (Dedoose)
*Experience working collaboratively and effectively with an interdisciplinary team
*Must be able to work independently
*Must be reliable and punctual

Preferred:
*Demonstrated experience leading an independent research project (through coursework or a Master’s thesis, for example)
*Interest in mentoring undergraduate and graduate public health students
*Experience with survey design
*General knowledge of health communication principles and dissemination channels including use of social media
*Bilingual in Spanish

This position is temporarily assigned a hybrid work arrangement (on-campus and remote), the duration of this hybrid work arrangement is at the discretion of Temple University and the Department.
