This is a 9-month non-tenure-accruing position that will be 80% research (Florida Agricultural Experiment Station) and 20% extension (Florida Cooperative Extension Service), available in the Food and Resource Economics Department, Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, at the University of Florida. This assignment may change in accordance with the needs of the unit. This position is grant funded across multiple projects with the UF/IFAS Economic Impact Analysis Program (EIAP) and under the direction of Dr. Christa Court, Director of UF/IFAS EIAP. Duties include participating in externally funded research efforts in economic impact analysis, economic contribution analysis, and advancing methods in input-output analysis to improve methodological tools available to the UF/IFAS EIAP for research and extension programming. The faculty member will coordinate the UF/IFAS EIAPs research programming in Regional Economic Analysis as well as engage in Extension activities in this program area. General duties will also include maintaining records and reports related to work, preparing reports detailing results of performed research, attending conferences and public meetings to communicate research findings to a broad set of stakeholders, preparing manuscripts for publications in academic journals and for University of Florida Extension. The faculty member will seek contract and grant funding actively to support their program.

Once successfully appointed to graduate faculty status, the faculty member will participate actively in undergraduate education and graduate education by serving on graduate committees, supervising thesis and dissertation research, supervising undergraduate research, and publishing the results with graduate students.

Background Information:

The Food and Resource Economics Department (FRED) has approximately 30 faculty members, 10 support staff positions in Gainesville, and 6 faculty members spread across 5 Research and Education Centers throughout the state. FRED faculty teach a wide variety of courses, from agribusiness marketing to natural resource/environmental economics, to welfare economics and trade theory. FRED averages approximately 300 undergraduate majors/year, and 60-80 M.S., Ph.D., and Master of Agribusiness students. Research and Extension efforts reflect both the needs of the State and the mission of the Agricultural Economics profession.

Minimum Requirements:


A doctorate (foreign equivalent acceptable) in Economics, Agricultural Economics or a closely related discipline is required. Candidate must have an active research program in input-output analysis methods and applications. Candidates should have demonstrated skills in verbal and written communication, interpersonal relationships, and procurement of extramural funding. Candidates must be supportive of the mission of the Land-Grant system. Candidates must also have a commitment to IFAS core values of excellence, diversity, global involvement, and accountability.

Preferred Qualifications:


Postdoctoral experience is desirable.

Experience working with publicly available data to develop regional input-output analysis databases.

Experience working with IMPLAN software and associated state and county databases.
