Job Description:

The Annual Giving Fellow will collaborate with Annual Giving and Development staff on specific initiatives designed to increase and sustain strong young alumni participation across the Annual Fund. The Fellow with help to acquire and retain young alumni donors and donors to the senior class gift and manage various associated Annual Giving micro campaigns. They will have sustained engagement with senior class leaders and key collaborators for the Annual Giving Program. The Fellow will acquire valuable annual giving, development and advancement experience that will train them as attractive candidates for positions in advancement at the end of the appointment. This is a two-year term position.

Essential Functions:

  • Conducts data analysis for class giving patterns, campaign and appeals effectiveness, and areas of interests for support by each class.

  • Draft and disseminates philanthropy education materials, solicitations, and newsletter copy.

  • Supports fund-driven communications across multiple channels, including email, phonathon, texting, and personalized ThankView video.

  • Manages implementation of new and existing Annual Fund programs and micro campaigns throughout the year including Giving Tuesday, Early Impact Challenge, Say Thanks Week, 1749 Circle Society, Reunion Giving endeavors, The President’s Society membership, and class-specific giving pages.

  • Serves as the Annual Fund point-person for undergraduate engagement by assisting with the recruitment of senior class leaders and by training, onboarding, and stewarding senior class volunteers.

  • Collaborates with Annual Fund Chair, Annual Fund Council, Young Alumni Advisory Committee, Senior Director of Annual Giving, Annual Giving staff and staff from other supporting departments to maximize Annual Fund results.

  • Participates in development meetings, trainings, conferences, and other training & education events to stay abreast of important development issues and successful annual fund trends. Networks with colleagues from peer institutions to learn from and stay competitive with their programs and to acquire pertinent best practices strategies.

  • Contributes to and helps manage projects and events as needed (such as Welcome to the City, All Volunteer Weekend, YAW, Spring Alumni Weekend, Young Alumni Focus Groups, etc.). Assists with and staff Advancement events as needed. Coordinates Annual Fund activities with Alumni Engagement to ensure young alumni participation.

  • Collaborates with donor relations and others to promote philanthropy education in young alumni and scholarship recipients as a way to encourage future philanthropy

  • Represent Advancement interests to other campus departments and to the Washington & Lee community

Work Schedule: M-F, 8:30am - 4:30pm with occasional nights and weekends.

Minimum Pay: $42,772 - Pay Commensurate with Experience

Minimum Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree, a valid driver’s license, and the willingness to commit to the position for two-years are required. Strong communication and writing skills and demonstrated organizational abilities are expected. The successful candidate will be both willing and able to work as part of the collaborative Advancement team, yet will be capable of creative self-direction.

Physical Requirements:

  • Fingering: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with whole hand or arm as in handling.

  • Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.

  • Repetitive motions: Making substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

Working Conditions: The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

Types of Work: Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
