  • Experience advising and/or supervising students in a higher education/university environment
  • Experience in event planning, coordinating, and program management
  • Ability to work in a crisis situation; experience advising and/or supervising students on risk management strategies and the importance of proactive event planning
  • Ability to coordinate a variety of work activities and work as part of a team
  • Experience in program and budget assessment
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends
  • Bachelor’s degree

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Personnel or related field
  • Experience in student organization advising, at a minimum of two years
  • Experience developing and coordinating leadership education and development programs
  • Experience developing and coordinating volunteer and service-learning programs
  • Experience with individual or organization conduct investigations

Job Description:

The student development specialist II serves as a team member of Student Involvement to build, support, and sustain a campus-wide culture that centers student involvement and engagement for the student community. Responsible for developing, planning, and implementing collaborative programs, services, and activities for Texas State University students to engage in and learn through leadership, service, and civic engagement. Supervises two graduate students. The functional title for this position is Coordinator for Leadership & Service.


Job Duties:

Leadership and Service Development and Implementation
Responsible for planning, developing, and implementing signature leadership and service programs (e.g.: alternative break program and undergraduate internship program).
Serve as secondary staff support for additional leadership and service programming, services, and activities (e.g.: Bobcat Build, Student Organizational Leadership Development program, endowed scholarship awarding).
Develop and implement assessments related to program outcomes.
Maintain compliance to budgetary policies & procedures.

Student organization advising and development
Responsible for the leadership development curriculum and processes for Student Involvement chartered student organizations and student employees alongside the Leadership and Service Team.SupervisionResponsible for the supervision, coaching, and performance management of graduate assistant(s), student interns and student employees.Provide additional oversight and support for leadership & service area programs, as needed.Administration and Budget ManagementManage fee budget and assist with endowed and non-endowed scholarships.Ensure fiscal responsibility, effective planning, effective use of resources, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and University policies and procedures. Create end-of-year reports for assigned functional area.Expressive Activity and DemonstrationsSupport, respond, and enforce free speech, expressive activity, and assembly related to Texas Senate Bill 18 and federal law.
Serve as a member of the expressive activity team addressing elevated expressive activity on campus.

Support Organization Conduct Processes
Serve as an organization conduct investigator, as needed.

Support Diversity and Inclusion Efforts
Model a strong understanding of and appreciation for the University’s, Division’s, and Department’s priorities related to creating inclusive and equitable environments, policies, services, and programming.

Support all Departmental Responsibilities
Actively participate in departmental programs and projects designed to support the mission and goals of the university, division, and department.
Actively participate as a member of the Division of Student Affairs.
Serve on committees and task forces, as assigned.
Other duties as requested or required, whether or not specifically mentioned in this job description.
