Departmental Overview

The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics consists of more than 250 staff members and coaches and sponsors 30 varsity sports programs. These 30 programs include more than 850 student-athletes who participate in the various sports programs annually within the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA). We are currently seeking an Assistant Athletics Director for our Premium Sales & Service team.

The Cal Athletics Fund is the fundraising and alumni relations arm of UC Berkeley's Intercollegiate Athletics Department, Cal Athletics. This position is responsible for helping to meet the fundraising objectives of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and ensuring that predetermined goals with regard to premium sales and service are met.

This position is responsible for assisting the Chief Development Officer with the design, planning, and execution of the Endowment Seating Program for Intercollegiate Athletics, through the management and supervision of the unit, including a team of up to 4 premium sales and service team members.

Responsibilities

The Assistant AD, Premium Sales & Service will manage the department's outbound premium ticket sales and service initiatives and will be responsible for creating a tightly knit, highly effective team. They will develop strategies for the marketing and selling of premium tickets to Football and Men's Basketball events to hit aggressive revenue goals and increase attendance. This will involve the analysis of identified constituencies/audiences and the development of programs, services, and outreach to meet identified needs and influence public perception. This position is a critical component to the department's ability to achieve overall budget goals by significantly increasing revenue and donations tied to premium ticket sales.
  • Direct management of the Premium Sales and Service team, through directing and providing leadership to achieve the goals of the unit and organization.
  • Oversee the work of professional and support staff involved in the implementation of multi-component premium sales and service programs.
  • Creates, develops, implements, and manages comprehensive promotional sales strategies/plans for a myriad of premium ticket sales for Cal athletic events, including short and long-range strategic planning.
  • Works with Customer Relationship Manager (CRM) to develop a database of sales leads for future solicitation.
  • Creates, plans, produces, and evaluates marketing, advertising, and sales promotion materials to help implement sales strategies and objectives. Conceives, designs, and produces informational material for the premium ticket sales and service team designed to reach maximum number of partners/prospects.
  • Serves as a lead for the team tasked with making outbound calls to prospects to generate premium sales tied to seat purchases.
  • Oversees research initiatives, including the planning, composition, and implementation of written surveys, focus groups, telephone surveys and intercept interviews for broad and targeted segments of our ticket base.
  • Regularly meets and consults with other department units (Ticket Operations, Development, Learfield, Business Office and Athletics Communications) to develop and implement promotional plans and to better improve our sales efficiencies and communications.
  • Builds and maintains effective relationships with outside (non-campus affiliated) companies and organizations. Conducts outbound sales calls and visits to local organizations, businesses with the goal of increasing our group and season ticket sales from our community partnerships.
  • Administers sales budget, ensuring that budget goals are met.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent training/experience.
  • Demonstrated managerial experience and success in ticket sales and service, preferably in a university environment.
  • Experience successfully meeting and exceeding goals and objectives.
  • Advanced knowledge of premium ticket sales and marketing principles, concepts, techniques and applications relevant to the field of promotion and advertising.
  • Advanced skills in developing, designing and implementing creative promotional and advertising strategies.
  • Ability to oversee multiple projects and quickly discern complex and competing interests.
  • Outstanding organizational, analytical, problem resolution and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills to establish and maintain good working relationships throughout the campus and with external constituencies.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and with quick timeframes to deliver outcomes towards goals and objectives through effective program/project planning, organization, and execution.
  • Ability to handle internal and external challenges in a tactful and professional manner.
  • Knowledge of the athletics environment including relevant issues including ticket sales, NIL, merchandising, revenue generation, and/or direct appeals within an athletics department and/or higher education or a corporate environment.
  • Ability to work across multiple databases and CRM systems to track sales prospects and activities.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Understanding of the unique nature of leading an athletics premium sales and service team.
  • Working knowledge of the institution, its mission, vision, goals, achievements, policies, and infrastructure preferred.
  • Understanding of tax guidelines governing charitable giving.
  • Knowledge and understanding of applicable NCAA and Pac-12 Conference rules and regulations.
