The Department of Journalism in the School of Communication at Emerson College is hiring full-time tenure track assistant or tenured associate professor in Broadcast and Multimedia Journalism to join the department in the Boston campus. The appointment begins August 24, 2023 with a mandatory 2-day orientation August 24 & 25, 2023.

Emerson College believes the pathway to achieving inclusive excellence and fostering a campus climate where everyone can thrive is only possible in an authentically inclusive, diverse, equitable, accessible, sustainable and socially just environment. As a community of storytellers, we continually strive to cultivate a community that draws upon the widest possible pool of talent to unify excellence and diversity while fully embracing individuals from varied backgrounds, cultures, races, identities, life experiences, perspectives, beliefs, and values.

The faculty member in this position will be expected to enhance visual storytelling with video/audio across the department's learner-centered curriculum and with its co-curricular organizations. For this tenured/tenure track position, the department is looking for an experienced academic and/or practitioner in daily and long-form television news who can teach broadcast news writing and producing, and who can extend their video journalism skillset into other multimedia formats.

The position is expected to support existing courses in audio/video reporting and producing, multimedia news producing, TV news producing and reporting, news magazine and documentary and long-form multimedia storytelling. This person will also help to enhance the department's use of video and audio news formats across creative and dynamic emerging media practices. This faculty member would help in determining and implementing new technology tools, from cameras to audio recording equipment to graphics and production facility connections.

This faculty member's teaching can also be open to experimenting and exploring new interactive and immersive stories for on air and online (e.g. 360-degree video, VR/AR). They are encouraged to develop courses that could extend the department's Advanced Journalism Diversity offerings as well as collaborative enterprise journalism work. Members of historically underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply.

This faculty member would be expected to have a research/creative portfolio that looks at and can provide insight into the next wave of broadcast journalism, possibly relating to news documentary work, freelance videography, video and animation or other new video journalism opportunities. Their research/creative portfolio would be expected to translate to the classroom in ways that provide Emerson journalism students with fundamental skills, flexibility and adaptability to visual storytelling formats, enhancing the discipline through their work.

Candidates must have a Master's degree (Ph.D. or terminal degree highly preferred), should demonstrate a record of successful teaching at the college level, and an online portfolio of professional work that demonstrates broadcast and/or digital news expertise.
