Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) is a multi-campus institution with vibrant, urban campuses in Boston, Massachusetts, in nearby Chelsea, Massachusetts, and at several satellites and instructional sites throughout the Greater Boston area. Job Description:


Reporting to the Interim Associate Dean of Advising, LifeMap and Assessment, the Director of Immigrant Services will be a point of access for students at BHCC for immigrant services, outreach and advocacy. The Director will establish liaisons with immigrant-facing organizations within the Greater Boston community and work in collaboration on developing programs and services for students. They will help ensure that the College is ready to support the needs of immigrant students, can expedite the delivery of community resources, in order that the college experience for immigrant students is conducive to success and completion. The Director of Immigrant Services will design efforts that prioritize the acquisition of resources the students need to achieve their educational goals, including directing and participating in advocacy efforts designed to impact social policy.


Specific Duties:


  • Utilizing culturally sustaining best practices, provide an array student support services including academic career/vocational and transfer advising; administer and interpret academic, personal and career/vocational assessments, to identify the skills and interests of students, assist students with development of personalized educational plan in alignment with career and transfer goals.
  • Collect data and provide reports regarding campus and community-based immigration issues that impact BHCC students.
  • Connect with community-based organizations that provide immigrant services, including financial, health, legal and basic needs support, and develop a repository of information that is accessible to students and other members of the college community.
  • In collaboration with Community-Based Initiatives, act as a liaison with current immigrant-serving community-based organizations in the Greater Boston area whose clients wish to pursue higher education at BHCC; develop partnerships with new organizations.
  • Create professional development within the College for faculty and staff to support the unique needs of immigrant students.
  • Be well-versed in all services within the College that can help immigrant students and create a platform for referrals and follow-up.
  • Convene, lead, and support the Immigrant Student Working Group, establishing roles and responsibilities that will enable it to provide holistic support of immigrant students.
  • Oversee the development of virtual and on campus spaces for immigrant students that is safe and welcoming; foster dialogue among students so they may give voice to their aspirations and fears; create cultural programming and events to be woven into the College's cultural events.
  • Collaborate with staff at the College who have day-to-day interactions with immigrant students to support alignment of services.
  • Determine the best paths for obtaining legal, financial, housing, and other forms of assistance for immigrant students, especially those who self-identify as being ineligible for government benefits.
    Stay abreast of current immigration policies that impact students; advocate for change as appropriate and necessary.


Requirements:


  • Master's degree in Educational Leadership, Organizational Leadership, Business Management or a closely related field; with at least three (3) years of experience in a higher education setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be committed to the mission of the community college and demonstrate the ability to work with a diverse faculty, staff and student population.
  • Extensive knowledge of U.S. immigration regulations impacting DACA and undocumented students.
  • Demonstrate and possess a strong ability to work collaboratively and independently.
  • Exceptional organizational skills; ability to handle confidential/sensitive information.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and implement solutions to complex problems.
  • Previous experience with building processes and/or implementing workflows.
  • Ability to travel to and from community-based partner organizations and events.
  • Strong working knowledge of Windows: Microsoft: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Excellent, demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
  • Bilingual in Spanish, Portuguese, Haitian Creole, Vietnamese or other language.
  • Focused ability to drive results and passion for follow-up.
  • Ability to work evening and weekend hours.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience working in a minority serving institution (MSI)


Additional Information:


Salary: $90,000.00-$100,000.00 (grant-funded)

Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) is a multi-campus urban institution, its main campus situated in the historic Charlestown neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts.
