JOB SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Associate Director of Operations and Facilities, the Manager of Operations & Facilities is responsible for the daily administrative and operational support of the Student Recreation Center and satellite recreational facilities. This position implements a wide variety of day-to-day responsibilities designed to ensure operational performance and provide quality service to members of the Student Recreation Center. Weekend and evening work is required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Personnel Management

  • Provide supervisory support to student employees in the performance of their daily responsibilities
  • Promote and maintain high-quality performance standards for facility operations student personnel
  • Implement ongoing student employee training and development programs
  • Evaluate student employee performance, providing written evaluations on an annual basis
  • Maintain employee scheduling, monitor for accuracy, and provide payroll verification
  • Work in collaboration with Recreation Human Resources to hire new student personnel
  • Facility Management

  • Serve as Recreation Center Manager on Duty ensuring facility policy, maintenance, safety, and customer service needs are met
  • Provide logistical support for programmatic units with the delivery of member services
  • Drive department vehicles in support of satellite operations including implementation and supervision of scheduled special events
  • Coordinate facility and equipment maintenance with internal and external constituents
  • Implement risk management policy and procedure for all facility activities
  • Provide timely and accurate incident, accident, risk management, financial, and maintenance reporting
  • Maintain accurate and accessible records related to all facility operations
  • Maintain accurate inventory of all facilities equipment and operational resources
  • Provide direct support for events hosted by UConn Recreation
  • Develop and expand professional knowledge of facility and maintenance operations in order to ensure quality and meet the needs of students, faculty, and staff
  • Planning & Assessment

  • Provide timely and accurate reporting of recreation facility participant usage data
  • Recommend operational and programmatic changes based on continuing need assessment
  • Assist in the development of the annual operating budget
  • Additional Duties

  • Provide leadership for assigned departmental programs and events
  • Instruct CPR/First Aid/AED classes for student employees and the UConn Community
  • Serve on department or University-assigned committees
  • Additional duties as requested by supervisor or departmental leadership
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
    • Two (2) years of related experience
    • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills necessary for effective work relationships
    • Demonstrated understanding of, stated commitment to, and/or experience working with diverse populations
    • Current Adult CPR/AED Certification or ability to secure within 6 months of hire.
    • Valid driver’s license and ability to acquire Connecticut Passenger “A” endorsement or equivalent
    • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills necessary for effective work relationships
    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Documented professional experience in facility and operations management
    • Direct experience working in student or customer service
    • Demonstrated experience facilitating employee development and training
    • Proficient with software applications related to department operations (e.g. Fusion, Connect2Concepts, Sub-it-Up)
    • First-Aid/CPR/AED Instructor Certification
    • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate information
    • Demonstrated organizational skills necessary to independently manage multiple projects
    APPOINTMENT TERMS

    This is a full-time permanent, 12-month position, including nights and weekends, with a full range of state health and retirement benefits.
