Research Assistant
We are looking for a highly-motivated and committed individual to assist with multiple NIH-funded studies and Maryland Department of Health-funded programs aimed at improving services for Latinos in Maryland. The incumbent will work in collaboration with the Latino Outreach Team and Covid-19 Response Strategy led by Dr. Page. The individual will assist with Covid-19 community vaccination, testing and mental health research grants in person and remotely. Specific duties include planning all logistics and staffing events, oversight of data collection and coordination with appropriate staff. The Research Assistant will work under the supervision of the Sr. Research Program Manager.

This role will provide excellent customer service and will contribute to the overall community engagement strategy development. This incumbent should be culturally aware and have a high level of emotional intelligence. The incumbent will demonstrate excellent judgement in handling sensitive situations and will be entrusted to build and sustain trust with the Communities served. The incumbent will work independently which requires a high degree of organization and dependability.




Duties and Responsibilities:

Assisting the team with participant recruitment and enrollment, conducting literature searches, distributing home-based COVID-19 testing kits, implementing community interventions (i.e. mental health, HIV testing, and vaccination), and assisting with survey data collection.

Specific duties include:
  • Planning and staffing Covid-19 events for testing, vaccination, and other related educational activities
  • Responsible for staffing and daily administrative operations including supplies, orientation, etc.
  • Conducting Covid-19 surveys
  • Serving as resource for clinicians and community partners with regard to protocol requirements
  • Abstracting medical data from charts that requires some interpretation
  • Assisting in coordinating study meetings for coordinating center.
  • Participating in study meetings: providing updates on protocol implementation status and making recommendations on operational issues
  • May assist with qualitative data analysis, reviewing the literature, and writing scientific manuscripts according to project requirements


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related discipline
  • Some related experience
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula

    • EPIC knowledge for scheduling/Registration

    The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
